Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Nov 21, 2007 6:23 pm Hi, my first time here
My family and I have just purchased a house with a semi-ensuite which we'd like to make some changes to. At present it has shower over bath with screen which none of us are fans of (bathing a wriggly 1yo with fixed screen is a worry!) What we'd like to do is remove the toilet from this room, which is in an alcove ~850mmx1000mm behind door, and replace it with a shower. The walls are timber studs, the whole bathroom is tiled to 1.8-2.0m height. Any thoughts or ideas would be received with thanks. JimD. Re: shower for toilet? a major renovation? 2Nov 22, 2007 7:49 am Tiled wall where the shower will go needs to be waterproofed. Unless you plan to put in a fibreglass shell one, so no tiles will be exposed to water.
You also need to consider getting taps and shower rose in place. At best, you would need to strip the walls of tiles and plaster, run the plumbing for taps, then re-sheet and tile from there. Have fun! Re: shower for toilet? a major renovation? 4Nov 27, 2007 7:01 am Do you have access under the house or is it a slab.
If its a slab I would think it nearly easier to gut the whole thing and start again as you will need access to the hot water from the bath tap wall. I used a Marbletrend 1-piece wall liner with a solid concrete base for the shower in our laundry/2nd bathroom. It has been in for about 4 months yet and we haven't had to clean it once apart from the shower screen. Its much better than tiles as far as maintanance goes - one to clean is enough. Looking at some of the designs on websites, they are all selling very similar products. I get that you want something stylish. It's worth looking for search terms like SaveH2O… 2 7006 Hey, I am wanting to add a second toilet to my house, bit we have limited room. There is a hallway/entry that is never used, so was thinking this could be an option.
