This is not an 'isolated incident'

Our toilets are Caroma Regal Deluxe close-coupled suite. Oh, just noticed that the max capacity is only 4.5 l !!

I was just expecting that in 2010 you'd be going forwards with some basic things, not backwards

Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Oct 17, 2010 9:15 am OK, is it only us or does anyone else have toilet cisterns that you can't just flush with a single press on the button? We have to hold it down until the cistern is emptied, or else it just stops as soon as you release the button. We do have them all connected to the water tank, could that be a part of the problem?? Has anyone had to call re. this?? It's sooooo annoying, having to stand there and waste my precious time on this !!! Southies, I hope there should be a better outcome for us! What is your model, I wonder .... Oh, one more thing ... their brochure says: The low profile push buttons are easy to operate and have durable moulded symbols to clearly identify the flushing volume. There is also a mini sign around the buttons ... it says "smartflush" ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Flushing your toilet (of all topics!!!) :) 5Oct 17, 2010 10:56 am Geez - I hope it isn't something to do with the make - we've just ordered the same ones! Have you pulled the top off and had a look to see if it is something in the mechanism that can be adjusted? I haven't looked in a modern toilet but the old style ones used to have places to adjust the float etc. Re: Flushing your toilet (of all topics!!!) :) 6Oct 17, 2010 11:04 am Lex - it could be a problem with the outlet washer sticking... You may need to pull the whole toilet apart...? Probably should get a plumber, because it's a problem that should not be happening... Is it definitely not flushing? Most the new toilets these days are designed to use a whole lot less water, so even when they sound like they're not flushing, they still are... Re: Flushing your toilet (of all topics!!!) :) 7Oct 17, 2010 11:05 am Ours do that to some extent - also Caroma but a different model (forget which) and are a 3/6 flush. No tank here so that wouldn't be affecting it. I just hit the full flush if I'm in a hurry but holding the half down for a few extra seconds is something that I rarely notice anymore. I *think* it's a water saving feature, so the minimum water needed to flush it is used. I do notice that it can use as little as half the quantity of water if it does it's quick flush. Status: sold our first house, moved in with parents, bought our second in Pakenham, still planning to build in a few years time. Re: Flushing your toilet (of all topics!!!) :) 8Oct 17, 2010 11:06 am I was wondering about a similar subject. With toilet manufacturers fighting for better water efficiency, I found some models not doing the job properly... they're just not able to flush the whole poo ![]() ![]() So you have to flush twice - there goes the "water efficiency"... I've been told by the plumber, imported models are "hit and miss", you may be lucky and you may not. This was a reason I am not sure if I want $398 back-to-wall model "Oxford" with soft close seat from Big Hen. http://bighen.com.au/Specials.htm Everyone recommends to stick with Caroma. It's sad to hear premium Caroma models are not ideal either. Re: Flushing your toilet (of all topics!!!) :) 9Oct 17, 2010 11:17 am Yep, sounds like a quick (read shallow) thinking about water efficiency, if that was the driving force in designing these cisterns. Thanks Erin for your help! It is flushing, but only if we "insist" on it (ie. keep the button pressed). As soon as you release the button, the water stops. So, until we noticed how it behaves, we were flushing down some 1/2 l water maybe - just as much as it would let it flow while you - literally - "press the button" - which is not much! You have to keep your finger on the button to make sure everything goes down! Can't wait for the bathroom to be renovated - we'll try the ceramic caroma then! Re: Flushing your toilet (of all topics!!!) :) 13Oct 17, 2010 2:52 pm We have the Caroma cosmo smartflush.. they seem to be working fine. Only like once did the button stick down, but it came back up and hasn't happened since. We don't have a water tank. Built with New Generation (Summit Homes) We own land!... with a slab on it! Or, have the installing plumber adjust the flush so that the cistern discharges more water. most outlet valves can be adjusted to flush more or less water. Or, the inlet valve is poorly adjusted, so that it needs to fill more. or, check that the pan is also a 4.6 liter pan. A reduced flush cistern isnt compatible with a full flush pan. The cistern needs to be converted, but this mix up would be unlikely with a suite purchased as such. I just hope it's not a permanent / design feature and the result of the manufacturer's water saving attempts, as someone already mentioned earlier. Still haven't called anyone, too busy on other important fronts.
