Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Oct 15, 2010 11:09 pm Hi all, Just a shout out to those who have a double vanity basin..... Do the sinks have their own separte plumbing or do the pipes join in the middle and go down into the floor as one? We have been quoted what we consider to be a high figure for installing a second basin in our ensuite, and wanted to know if the price could be because each sink requires its own separate lot of plumbing fixtures? Any photos would be a bonus too Thanks H1ers Happy, Healthy Free Range Wessex Saddleback Pigs My doom and gloom paperwork nightmare viewtopic.php?f=31&t=32170 Construction viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43653 Re: Double vanity basin - separate plumbing?? 2Oct 15, 2010 11:23 pm Hey,i maybe able to help with this one "V" Will check the paper-work coz we added an extra basin on 1 plan, with the other double basin came as STANDARD bbl Block bought 1st RBC X! 2nd Ventrua,Keeper! A plumber would have to tell you whether there has to be a trap underneath each bowl, or if there can be only one trap fitted after the two drains join. I don't know. Hope that assists Re: Double vanity basin - separate plumbing?? 4Oct 16, 2010 1:42 am Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ This is what ours looks like without the doors on. Not sure of what's underneath, obviously they are separate - probably join a long pipe below. Built with New Generation (Summit Homes) We own land!... with a slab on it! Plus a shell of a house with stuff inside ! Re: Double vanity basin - separate plumbing?? 6Oct 16, 2010 10:01 am Thanks for your replies guys, From what you have said then, do you think the following costs to install a second vanity basin in our ensuite are reasonable then • Plumbing licensing board fee $ 16 • Complete installation of basin ( plumbing labour and materials ) with ( supply of ) standard tap set $ 599 the standard tapset rrp @$95 • Cosmo Vanity Basin $ 147 What bothers me so much is the low cost of the sink and taps compared to labour and materials. The sink is a very basic one which just drops into a cutout on the bench - nothing fancy or complicated in installing. We just can't see how $500 worth of labour and materials is justified? Any thoughts? I agree, $599 is a bit steep.. is the vanity already big enough to have 2 basins? if so, ask them how much it would cost to have a hot & cold rough in and a capped waste point (only) to the side where you're having the extra basin installed.. just make sure they align the other basin/taps to one side and not directly in the middle. if its cheap, it may be feasible to do this and get someone out to fit it later on... that said, you'll probably get stung by a plumber to do the job later on as it would be a small job and they'd most likely charge out the ***. its a tough one.. Re: Double vanity basin - separate plumbing?? 8Oct 16, 2010 10:40 am Hiya XT4V, The vanity is 2.1m long. Originally it only had the one, but we realised that it would look funny being so long with only the one basin in it so we have added another one to the plans. We are in a rural area, so getting a plumber out to do anything, is next to impossible and oh so expensive so we would like to get it done by the builder. We just can't see $500 of work in it though?
