Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Oct 11, 2010 7:02 pm I'm redoing a bathroom and would love slate tiles or something that looks like it. I found a company called Refin that produces porcelain tiles that's 4.8 mm thick that can be laid over exisiting floor tiles. I'm going to call a distributor in Victoria tomorrow, but was just wondering if there are other brands that can do this too and if it's strong enough to withstand normal wear and tear and resist cracks, especially with larger-sized tiles? It would be a time and labour saver but I know I'm going to pay more for the tiles. The feedback I got from them was that there where issues with the way the tile had to be laid on floors - and then getting tilers to follow the specific steps required. I assume it had more to do with getting falls to wastes etc...and reduceing lipping. But if overall floor height is not an issue you can use any thickness tile...as long as the right adhesives are used and the original floor is sound. Cheers To put anything over slate you will need to put self level compound over the entire area as slate various in thickness and is very un even.
