Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Oct 10, 2010 9:32 am Ladies & Gents, I'm building a house with a double basin to ensuite and current have the standard (non mixer) type taps planned for the ensuite. I'm now wondering if the mixer type taps would look better? Can anyone help me with pros/cons? Which would you choose? Building at Warner Lakes in sunny Queensland. Building with Bold Properties. (help!) 3Oct 10, 2010 10:56 am I have flick mixer taps on all my taps, except the laundry - like Huggy says, just a personal preference, I think they are easier to use (especially in showers to get temp right) and like the simple design look. No big deal either way though. Re: Ensuite Taps - Mixer, or Twin Tap? (help!) 5Oct 10, 2010 12:35 pm Hi, From a practical standpoint mixers give you complete freedom from replacing tap washers. I've replaced so many of those I'd get a mixer for that reason alone. You might have to replace the mixer cartridge only once in a span of many years. There are many many designs and prices, so you should be able to find one you like. Mixers must have stop taps fitted at the wall outlets for hot and cold, but that is no big deal. They are vulnerable to dirt in the pipes, so make sure the pipes are well flushed before connection, and get a mixer type which has inlet strainers. Some mixer taps are quite noisy in operation, so ask the supplier if there is any way this can be assessed. It is an unusual request, but you don't want to be driven mad later. Cheers Re: Ensuite Taps - Mixer, or Twin Tap? (help!) 6Oct 10, 2010 12:43 pm We have 4 ensuites and 2 powder rooms - every single vanity has mixers. Easier for the kidlets to use (and to turn off!!). We even have mixers in the main ensuite's shower but the other 3 showers have conventional taps. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Ensuite Taps - Mixer, or Twin Tap? (help!) 7Oct 10, 2010 7:21 pm We too have put mixer tapes in our ensuite, laundry and kitchen. From another point a view, we're getting older. When DH turns taps off hard (to stop them dripping), I have trouble turning the taps on. We're thinking about our future needs. Very funny TheOK, although it is pretty tempting since I'm feeling very worn out after looking after granddaughters all day When my parents built they did everything to plan for the future regarding wheelchair access, shower seats etc. Luckily they haven't needed it all (yet). It all comes down to personal taste and what YOU want/prefer. I have 2 taps in all my bathrooms /showers/basins, and have a mixer on the kitchen and laundry. I find my kids only know how to turn the mixers on to 2 settings. Either full on and wasting water, or off. I much prefer the look of taps, but that's because my house/decor is more traditional, not modern. Henley - Wilshire Mk 3 ... I love my house!! (help!) 14Oct 12, 2010 7:21 am I prefer mixers as well and I think it is kind of more efficient (as far as I am concern). For e.g in winter ppl in the house tend to open up only the hot water tap say to wash their hands and by the time they are done (which is when the water is actually hot) they close it. :-l On the other hand mixers tend to stay in the middle more or less and it would suit most ppl. Re: Ensuite Taps - Mixer, or Twin Tap? (help!) 15Oct 12, 2010 7:40 am It is personal choice, but it seems your personal choice could be either so....I have mixers throughout. I love the simple look, I find them easier to clean and easier to regulate the temperature. Re: Ensuite Taps - Mixer, or Twin Tap? I don't know a single advantage of twin taps... they're sooo 1950's.... Well, perhaps the advantage to some people is they prefer them - nothing wrong with that, no need for sarcastic comments Bathroom renovation will likely include a back-to-corner bath and we’re considering a freestanding tap with hand-held shower such as the picture included. My hesitation… 0 24861 that will depend on the kitchen bench depth. you'll have to specify it so it allows for both the tap and the sink 1 7657 7 5293 |
