Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Oct 07, 2010 11:15 am I’m looking at the possibility of White Knight tile paint again for the ensuite at my place… Seeing as it looks like we won’t be able to buy ANYTHING we actually like in terms of new properties, I may as well try and do something at our own place I suppose. Sigh. Anyway, so I have a few questions for anyone who’s used this paint… 1. Obviously you’re only able to use it on walls, not floor tiles. That’s fine, except what do you generally do in that case? Do you remain restricted to the colour you can use on the walls so it doesn’t totally clash with the floor tiles you can’t change? Or do you actually get new floor tiles to match or complement the newly painted wall tiles? 2. I’d be getting a proper tile paint person to do this for me. I do NOT trust myself to prepare and prime and paint AND grout re-colour well enough to match my expectations. Has anyone done this, or did you all do it yourself? 3. I’ve read heaps of reviews and info on this, and they say the painted tiles closely resemble ceramic tiles, which is nice, but do they REALLY? My main curiosity here is whether the newly painted tiles might look TOO shiny? Like, not a nice natural gloss, but a hideous over the top sheen / shine, like cheap public toilet tiles, you know? 4. Can you sort of get some kind of natural tile look in terms of somehow adding swirls or different tones within the one paint colour? Meaning, you know how tiles have different tones in each one? Like a swirl of darker colour and some paler colours, etc? Can you do this with tile paint somehow? To give depth and a more natural stone look? Thanks!! How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: More info on tile paint please! 2Oct 07, 2010 12:32 pm grace_slick 1. Obviously you’re only able to use it on walls, not floor tiles. I've made a comment in another thread that light floor tiles don't look that flash to me because the grout is the same colour (and floor grout is not generally white) but it definitely has worn well and is plenty durable. They are holiday rental units so really get the rough treatment by constant changes in tenants. I would go with a dark grey/brown/black if I was going to paint floor tiles in my own bathroom. grace_slick 2. I’d be getting a proper tile paint person to do this for me. Our unit was one of many so I would say they got a professional to do it all - so can't comment on this. grace_slick 3. The wall tiles and grout in 3 units I've seen were white with the grout painted the same colour. Another of the units I've seen had a creamy apricot colour and that looked fine too although I personally prefer the white. We were living in the first unit for a week or so before I noticed that the tiles had been painted. To me it looks great and is so easy to clean as no mould can stick to the grout. Other than the grout beeing a little glossy, to my eyes it looks the same as expensive porcelain tiles. I wouldn't hesitate to paint wall tiles of my own house if it needed updating. Don't know what you might mean by cheap public toilet tiles - everyone would have their own taste, I guess. grace_slick 4. The floor in the current unit where we're staying has grey spots in the white. Not my cup of tea personally, but there are definitely colour options with the type of paint they used (don't know if it would be White Knight). I'll post some pics of tiles I like (trying to be a bit realistic, not putting marble swirl tiles, etc, lol) and also tiles that to me, represent the "cheap public toilet" look. Love these... They're just not what I personally want for my tiles. (although the one with the dirty grout DOES look bad. lol. But even if it was fixed up, I still don't like that look) Also, see this pic here of the shower stall with the feature darker tiles around the edge? Would this look as good with paint? You know, you paint the outer tiles darker and stuff? I love that look, but it might look silly with just paint. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ AND LASTLY, I love the look of a nice warm-hued bathroom, even if it's verging on quite dark tiles...but I'm not sure that would translate as well with paint as opposed to real tiles. I'd feel terrible if the job was all done, and I liked it less than before!! Can you remove the paint easily? How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Re: More info on tile paint please! 5Oct 11, 2010 3:38 pm Awww, why do ya say that!? lol I have come to the conclusion though, that my taste in tiles IS a more natural opulent style stone-look tile, NOT a glossy purely ceramic tile-paint style tile. How the hell did I become a senior member!? I know nothing! Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7170 Looking for advice on whether this variation in tile colour is acceptable. The large tile on the left was used in my main bathroom renovation 1 year ago.
