Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Sep 26, 2010 4:13 pm Something I've never given any thought to, and I get this feeling the builder will ask soon... I've chosen our bathroom tiles (heaven forbid they are discontinued since the century ago when I chose them!). I've gone with white wall tiles and a pale stoney grey floor tile. The side of the bath will be the same pale grey as the floor but a different shape & size tile. My questions are: - Do I get white grout for the side of the bath or stick with the same colour grout as the floor tiles have? - What colour should the floor grout be? Are there different shades of grey for grout? How light can I go without dirt building up and making it look like crap? Kylie Re: Grout colour 2Sep 26, 2010 8:52 pm Dark grey grout usually lightens up a lot when it dries so keep this in mind. Stick with the same grout for the same tiles. Personally I think you see dirt build up in any colour, if it isn't dark dirt marks then it will be light water marks.... I wouldn't have thought the bathroom would get too much dirt staining the floor as opposed to high traffic living areas. Re: Grout colour 3Sep 27, 2010 7:13 pm I have just completed my ensuite. I went charcoal/brown floor tiles with a similar colour grout. For shower walls I went a pale grey tile, again with pale grey grout. I wanted the grout to match the tiles used. I didn't want the grout to stand out or be a feature. My feature tiles have the pale grey grout. However, I am just about to begin the main bathroom and want the same colours throughout both rooms. However, this time I am going to try to 'soften' it a little by using an off white grout with the feature tiles. I have had white tiles and grout before and I am loving the darker this time around!! Have fun! Re: Grout colour 4Sep 27, 2010 10:13 pm Thanks for your replies guys. Quote: I didn't want the grout to stand out or be a feature. I agree, MumofTwo29, with light tiles a dark grey grout could easily become the feature instead of the tile. BTW This bathroom was my inspiration (a display in Beaumonts): The feature tiles on this bath are just gorgeous (travertine) and I spent hours and hours gazing at them and trying to justify the extra cost to myself to use them, but couldn't bring myself to spend the bucks in the end. Revisiting this photo - I think I probably have to go against MrsGreen's suggestion at sticking with the same grout with the same tiles. (Before looking at it again, I was leaning towards that point of view - same colour for same tiles!) I do want the smaller tile to stand out like the travertine ones do so I think I will need the contrast of the white grout. Thanks for your help - and apologies that it seems like I'm completely ignoring the advice (oops!). Kylie Re: Grout colour 5Sep 28, 2010 12:27 am I must have skimmed over the post. I assumed you meant larger sized tiles not smaller ones. I agree that with the smaller ones you don't want to match the colour (although still keep it similar of course). I didn't even know travertine was done in such small format. Our designer has given me a large one (at just under $200 per tile ) to consider as feature in out bathroom... not sure I can justify the cost though. Thanks splashers, that makes sense. The waterproofing guy used this Davco product, I will raise the issue with builder and hopefully get resolved with him - if not… 2 12896 Hi everyone, Have just put a shower in the laundry and after only using it 2-3 times have noticed staining on the grout. The tiles were glued onto a concrete wall after… 0 5453 Thankyou so much 😀 I've decided on White on white for doors and trims, White on white 50% on ceiling and Mt buller for walls. Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7170 |
