Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Sep 18, 2010 1:46 pm Hi all, I have a newish house, and for the showers, both showers have a small "gap" on the side against the wall - where it looks like it hasn't been sealed, but both in the same spot. I asked them, and they said it's standard these days - it's designed to allow water from inside the wall to come down through the hole into the shower. This is the gap I mean: http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/8894/gapy.jpg The problem is that my 4 year old daughter this morning covered up the main drainhole in the shower, so it flooded... right out of the shower and the entire ensuite was flooded I managed to clean it up... but now I'm worried about that little gap at the back of the shower. I'm assuming water went through that, rose up past the "lip" of the shower base, and I now have a pool of water inside my wall and over the frame.... or can the water not get that far from there? I don't quite understand how the gap works. Re: Shower installation and drainage gap 2Oct 17, 2010 11:26 am Woah nobody has this? I thought I'd have at least one reply... S*monds says it's "normal" (standard) to have a gap like that in showers these days, but I basically want it verified becuase I've never seen anything like this before. 2 4915 Need more photos from around the house including your gutters. We have had 3 of the wettest years in a row for some time so that wouldn't be helping 3 5761 The gap can be adjusted so it's tighter. You can definitely set up corner cabinets to have the same gap as standard doors. 2 8587 |
