Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Sep 17, 2010 7:18 pm Hi Everyone, Love some advice please! After months of planning I begun the renovation of my house starting with master bedrm and ensuite. I love the master bedrm - full tint Lamb's Ears as feature wall (a green); 1/4 tint Lamb's ears on other 3 walls; white gloss arcs, skirts, doors & windows. I also installed a gorgeous, flowery hanging light fitting and as room is at front of house some white voile curtains. The problem is my ensuite! I think it is too masculine and grey!! I was looking for a contemporary, yet elegant & neutral look, but it is all a little 'cold' I think!! Even the taps are too hard! The walls need to be painted and I am thinking Dulux Antique White USA as it is a warmer white. But should I go another colour?? What colour towels can I introduce to help?? What type of mirror? I am really worried as I bought the tiles for the other bathroom at the same time so want to be happy with this room before I start the main bathroom. What should I do differently?? http://img841.imageshack.us/img841/7528/ensuuite004.jpg http://img444.imageshack.us/img444/8371/ensuuite001.jpg http://img838.imageshack.us/img838/4979/ensuuite002.jpg Thanks so much for reading this. Would love any advice - positive or negative! Mof2 Re: I don't like my new ensuite! What can I do to 'pretty' it 2Sep 17, 2010 7:39 pm To girly it up (for want of a better term : )) I'd go soft green towels (that mosaic in the pics looks greeny) and I would get a mirror with a detailed silver frame(to pick up the chrome and keep in tune with the grey) or maybe a silver candlestick or two (or actually wooden candlesticks with a silver aged finish) - add a bit of romance to the space. That was my first impression. Re: I don't like my new ensuite! What can I do to 'pretty' it 3Sep 17, 2010 7:48 pm I think once the walls are painted (I like Antique White USA or another white will lighten it up too) and you have the shower screens and other chromey bits and its all clean and shiny it will look fine. a pot plant might help too, and maybe a glass display jar with some soaps, if you have room. Re: I don't like my new ensuite! What can I do to 'pretty' it 4Sep 17, 2010 7:53 pm Looks good so far. The antique white will be nice. Towels bluesteel recommends sound great too. I always put a lovely vase with an arrangement of fake flowers- yes fake but expensive fake. The fake that look real, flowers. Or fancy candle holders with candles. Can you fit these in as is or is there room for a small table of some kind? The kind that is very small and not invasive - that is another way of bringing some lovely style into the bathrooms. A beautiful white high lamp table. If its not already white, thats fine. Keep some paint left over from your walls and paint the "stand/table" the same colour. How about some lovely shelves? Only a couple - maybe glass. Then put some glass jars (decorative) with bath salts. You will pick these up cheap as chips in any decor store. The list is endless. But start with your lush towels and a beautiful floor matt and you will notice a BIG difference. Also, after a couple of years, if you want to change the look, all you need do replace your towels/mat, take down your shelves and put up a picture with the same tones as the new bath mat/towels. Beautiful. You can maybe consider some fancy lights. I'd imagine your electrical is all done by now though. And then soften again with some nice blinds - I went venetians in white with extra large slats and preferably not timber. Re: I don't like my new ensuite! What can I do to 'pretty' it 5Sep 17, 2010 9:11 pm If you can hunt around for an artwork to hang on that wall adjacent to your shower it could transform the room. I have a flat metal sculpture that looks fabulous hung on a wall. Otherwise I second the fancy light fitting. Something just to "fill in" that space that will be there once it's finished. Otherwise you could wall mount a freestanding storage shelf over your loo and fill with rolled up towels and top with decoratives on the top shelf space it will create. Once it's painted it will look completely different though so just wait and see. Love your mosaics! People make one happy, not houses? I do not think so. Houses are more to be trusted than people. I found a few pics for you.... Potted orchid - fake is fine, as Garden Lover said. I'd go for white or green...and a white pot, but maybe something with a textured design on it. I have a rectangular vase half-filled with pebbles (to match our feature tiles) and with an artificial white lily shoved in the top. I'd post a pic, but my husband's still in bed ...don't want to disturb the sleeping beast. Shells, pebbles, soaps, flowers, bath salts, cotton balls....you can pretty much put anything you like in them. Have a look around at the bathroom accessories available and see what appeals. There are ceramics, stainless steel, timber or stone-look to choose from. If you stick with a neutral wall colour, the good thing about the overall colour scheme is that you can change the look as often as you like, just with new towels and accessories. Buy one towel in each of several colours from Target and try them in the room to see which one you like best. Then just return the ones you don't want and exchange them for more of your chosen colour. I love Target and K Mart when I can't make up my mind on those sorts of things... try before you buy. Re: I don't like my new ensuite! What can I do to 'pretty' it 8Sep 18, 2010 9:15 am kek donuts' idea of glass jars is a good one: Image Sorry to hijack this thread , but I've been on the look-out for these glass jars for awhile and haven't managed to stumble across any (apart from Freedom which stocked a large jar for a pricey sum of just under $100 ). Any ideas where to find any? Thanks for the pics Kek. I think I'll even use some of these as inspiration PS: MumofTwo - your ensuite looks really lovely!! Hopefully you'll come to love it after adding your own personal touches Re: I don't like my new ensuite! What can I do to 'pretty' it 9Sep 18, 2010 9:39 am Sometimes Target has them, but you have to keep checking. I've also seen them in a particularly good $2 Shop, although not recently. Fancy homewares shops or maybe places like Adairs stock them sometimes too, but you'll pay through the nose for them. You could try IKEA, if there's one near you - they might have something. This site has some plain ones: http://www.aussiecandlesupplies.com.au/shop/home.php?cat=261 These are lovely: http://www.thewhiteshed.com.au/home-decorative/glass-jars-canisters.html http://www.thearmchair.com.au/wp/store/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=2&products_id=344&zenid=7b6d8d8dcc12967b352917e71520b692 Re: I don't like my new ensuite! What can I do to 'pretty' it 10Sep 18, 2010 6:34 pm Thanks for those links, Kek!! I've just spent ages browsing this one: http://www.thewhiteshed.com.au/home-dec ... sters.html Wow, such beautiful stuff and quite reasonable too. I think I might order me some glass jars from there!! Re: I don't like my new ensuite! What can I do to 'pretty' it 16Sep 22, 2010 2:38 pm I found the glass hurricane style jar with lid at myer today . And they were on sale, an added bonus!! The lady said they only just got stock in and there was only 3 left so they must disappear quickly. Brand is vue and they were $24.00 on sale. (They were so cheap I got two!!) No the fireplace doesn’t work. It’s been enclosed. I’m not sure what was removed, as it was done quite some time ago - well before what I can see with photos online… 2 11588 Thanks for the suggestion. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6142 the step up is 30mm and wanting it to be flat . how much does the concrete have to be lowered .we plan on removing bath and lenghten shower and adding seat. the old bath… 0 11837 |
