Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Sep 08, 2010 1:18 pm HI folks I think I already know the answer to this, but am asking in the hope there may be some solution out there.... We have purchases a newly renovated house which we are moving into shortly. I notice that the bathroom, which has a bath and a shower over the bath, does not have any low bath taps - it only has the showerhead to fill the bath with (showerhead is one of those ones you can lift off the wall and hold in your hand - not sure of the name). We have two little ones who will soon be wanting baths in the big bath (currently still using the laundry trough ) but am not sure how effective filling the bath from the showerhead will be?? (And they'e put the taps inside the glass screen so you have to lean right in and around the corner to turn off/on, but that's another story). Was wondering if there was any means of installing bath taps after tiling has been completed?? ( ) or if anyone has any other solutions? I just find it really odd that they would install a bath but not bath taps - maybe it;s the done thing these days?? Ceebs It sounds like what they have done is converted what would have been a bath spout into an over head shower hence the odd location of the taps and the lack of seperate shower taps and bath spout. There could be many ways to fix this. If the location of the shower is on a internal wall it might be possible to install an extra set of taps and shower by coming in from the other side. Another option would be to have someone carefuly remove the tiles, do the work and put it all back, it shouldn't be a major issue if the reno was done recently and you can find spare tiles in case of breakage. Failing that it might be possible to put in place a water switch (for want of the technical name), one way it fills the bath, the other it does the shower. Bit like what you would find in a hotel or many parts of Europe. My old place in had an antique style water switch. Basicly the water in came up from the bath to the taps. The taps where then joined to the water switch, one side formed the bath spout the other to the hose for the shower. So to fill the bath you put the switch to bath and turned the taps on, for the shower throw the switch to shower. Re: Question re possibly installing bath taps after tiling?? 3Sep 09, 2010 8:22 am If I understand you correctly, the bath spout has been taken off and a shower hose fitted. If thats the case, you can take off the shower fitting/hose by simply unscrewing it. You can then either screw a bath spout back on or fit a diverter spout which is a bath spout that has a small knob that you lift and it diverts the water away from the bath into a male thread onto which you screw a flexible hose with your shower head on it. Other than that, you need the tiles removed and a shower bath breech fitted to replace the bath breech you have now. Re: Question re possibly installing bath taps after tiling?? 4Sep 09, 2010 9:36 am Thanks for your input guys. Sorry, I didn't explain myself properly - there is no bath taps or bath spout. There is only the shower taps and shower head (which is one of those long hand-held ones). So it looks like removing tiles and adding taps/spout is the only way to go?? Is that right? (Yes, it was recently renovated, will have to ask builder if he has any extra tiles). Ceebs Bathroom renovation will likely include a back-to-corner bath and we’re considering a freestanding tap with hand-held shower such as the picture included.
