Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Sep 02, 2010 4:14 pm Hi All, I am in a dilemma and would like your opinions. Here is my plan Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I have a bathroom design so that i can fit a spa in. To do so i have put the shower infront of the vanities eating in to the master room abit. This also doubles to block the mirror However i was wondering those of you who have spas in your bathrooms, how practical are they? Do you ever use them or you prefer an outdoor spa? If more people think that having a spa is redundant then i may as well just go for a simple flat wall this way i still wont be looking at the mirror at the foot of my bed. any advice is much appreciated. Cheers. Re: bathroom will it work? 2Sep 03, 2010 11:02 pm Personally, i wouldnt bother with a spa in an ensuite and i would prefer a flat wall. Its really down to personal choice. One thing i did notice was a bit of a wasted hallway between the family room and the home theater. Could you move the wall to get rid of that hallway? Re: bathroom will it work? 3Sep 04, 2010 12:17 am Why not run your spa across the end of the room and then have the door in front of the vanity. Then you can have the spa and a flat wall. I have an oval spa that runs the width of the bathroom, taking up the entire wall on a short side of the bathroom. I use my spa a LOT, I looove my spa. In cold weather I use it to warm up. In hot weather I use it to cool down (no airconditioning ) I love to shut the door, sit in the spa and get away from........well, the family (a wine and a book never go astray either) Re: bathroom will it work? 4Sep 04, 2010 11:17 am the hall way is for a little privacy to the master bedroom. i kinda like that. i know it seems like wasted space now but i can change that in the future if i liked. i was going to use the nook to put a study table there. to give it a "flat wall impression.... may have to brick it upone of the entrances. I dont like to see my vanity from my bed its bad for feng shui..... Re: bathroom will it work? 6Sep 06, 2010 12:36 pm If you dont want to look in at your vanity from the bed why not put a door on or just have the one, off centre door to the right, so you can still have your study wall, and not look into the bathroom from your bed. You could put a cavity slider if you dont want the space a hinged door takes. Re: bathroom will it work? 7Sep 06, 2010 3:02 pm I'd put the spa/bath where you've got the recess for the shower, with a capping across the top and open window to the bedroom. At least that is what we're doing, opens it right up and gives me some shelf space (my personal bar) along the top of the capping. Ours will look across the bedroom to the massive window looking out to the open sky (well to ocean, but you won't see that from the bath). I've requested a large bath but not spa. I think they age over time and if the pump breaks and whatnot it's just a pain. One plug = less place for germs to 'grow' around. I'll opt for an outside above ground spa. Re: bathroom will it work? 8Oct 07, 2010 4:49 pm I would go with the indoor spa. Outdoor spa takes 6 hours and plenty of gas to warm up the water. It is also has chlorine smell. Germs - go for self-draining model. There are also chemicals for regular cleaning of the spa. Pump is best to locate outside the house, easy to maintain/replace and less noise at the spa. Boils down to personal preference anyway... Re: bathroom will it work? 9Oct 07, 2010 5:02 pm Cheers for the feedback But i have found that corner spas also take alot of water to fill up! even the oval ones too... maybe rectangular is the way to go. will look at options this weekend. Have to agree with moving the spa to were the shower is and I would only put one door into the ensuite. Nice plan Cheers Lou http://take2-customdesigndownslope.blogspot.com 07-10-09 omg they have cut the block 14-05-10 we finally have the keys Re: bathroom will it work? 11Oct 08, 2010 5:42 am Don't bother with the indoor spa. Our house has two indoor spas (don't ask me why the original owners did this), and we've used them about 4 times since we moved in. We put in an outdoor spa, and it gets used a few times every week. Yes they do take 6 hours, or more to heat up, but the idea is you insulate them well, and leave them running all the time. It's a much nicer spa to use then the indoor ones, and I wouldn't bother with an indoor spa in a house again.
