- to the ceiling - as high as the shower screen - higher in the shower & then drop down lower around the rest of the room I'm sure there are many other options as well - it would be great to see some photo's of what everyone has done - ,or let me know what you are going to do! No need to go all the way if you're not going to make a mess!
Plus someone has to get up there and clean it all... Re: Wall tiles- how high did you go? 11Nov 05, 2007 3:49 pm I meant the TILING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It can depend on the size and type of tiles you use. Big tiles can look effective all the way to the ceiling wheras smaller tiles such as federation 'brick' tiles will look to busy going the whole way up the wall. If you talking about a full reno, keep in mind you top sheet of villaboard needs to be nailed and not glued if its to be tiled, otherwise glued as per gyprock for a paint finish Re: Wall tiles- how high did you go? 14Nov 05, 2007 8:12 pm Hi Phoenix,
Just wondering what 'standard heights' are in your contract. Does this mean just above the shower screen in the shower & then just above vanity height for the rest of the room?? The hard thing about being owner builders is there is no guidelines or "standards" to follow - makes for way too many decisions Re: Wall tiles- how high did you go? 15Nov 05, 2007 8:26 pm Hi Jo K, the shower tiling is 2140 high, spa & bath is 900 high, nothing req'd for basin. I would say that that is pretty standard. I have kids and they dont make too much mess in the bath, i don't have any problems.... As I mentioned before, i can't justify the cost and the extra cleaning involved in tiling up to the ceiling.
Hope this helps. Re: Wall tiles- how high did you go? 17Nov 05, 2007 9:37 pm Personally I'd be happier to repaint once in 5 years or so instead or regular cleaning and wiping down of the tiles all the way to the ceiling. But that's lazy old me!!!! Re: Wall tiles- how high did you go? 18Nov 05, 2007 9:53 pm I've had both over the last 15 or so yrs and a bathroom with good ventilation doesn't need you to wipe tile down tiles up near the ceiling cause no water gets up there to cause a problem ... I've had 3 bathrooms with partial tiles and 2 with full tiles .... in my opinion there is no competition Re: Wall tiles- how high did you go? 19Nov 05, 2007 10:31 pm I have to admit i haven't seen a display home with tiling up to the ceiling?
Maybe builders should add it in to their homes as standard if it is getting more popular. Maybe builders should add it in to their homes as standard if it is getting more popular. I've noticed the up market builders here in Sydney show full tiling in the bathrooms of their display homes. We're getting quite large tiles on the walls.. (400mm x 250 mm).. so i think they will look good all the way up there. Thanks mate. Yeah good points!
