Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry Re: Wall tiles- how high did you go? 21Nov 06, 2007 7:25 am We only saw a couple of the MANY displays we saw that had tiling to the ceiling - and it was only the ensuites. To me, it has to be a light coloured tile because a chocolate tile to the roof is going to be far too dark.
We just went with the standard as the shower in the bathroom is on the other side of the vanity to the bath - so the mirror is going to be the buffer between the height differences, and in the ensuite the shower is next to the bath, but the bath has a window full length, so it will only be the far wall of the bath that is at a different height. Didn't see a need to tile full height. Ray. Second Time 'Round Re: Wall tiles- how high did you go? 22Nov 06, 2007 7:51 am We have no tiles in the bathrooms, apart from shower and floor, and have put mirrors down to benchtops. I just pretend I don't see water drops on the glass .
On the other hand, I really like what ladyice has done with her square grey tiles in the bathroom (see her thread). Re: Wall tiles- how high did you go? 23Nov 06, 2007 1:14 pm we are tiling all the way to the 10 foot ceiling in bathrooms, powder room and laundry. we love the continuous look. the tiler on the other hand is not so happy!! lucky he is family
Helen Re: Wall tiles- how high did you go? 24Nov 20, 2007 4:41 am We haven't started building yet, but this is just the sort of thing I'm thinking about at the moment. We have requested an allowance for full tiling just in case.
I saw a bathroom done up in a bath & tile showroom with big creamy couloured tiles all the way up to the wall, it just looked so sparkly & nice. Hubby is hesitant in the idea I think, so it's undecided as yet, I guess we may go half way with a nice border tile & some colour later down the track on the upper part of the walls. I've got two little kids & they make more of a mess on the floor than they do on the wall when having a bath! This is the one from Ladyice - love it! We went to the height of the door frame, all the way around, leaving around 300mm to the cornice, which was painted. We **were** happy with, and it looked nice, as the tiles were at the same level all around.
However, when I renovated the laundry, which has a sloping ceiling, I decided it would be easier to tile to the roof - with angled cuts up the 2 walls hidden under a 40x40mm timber cornice. The wall tiles were 300x200 laid vertically, again in white, with vertical feature strips of blue glass 15x15mm tiles. Once I'd finished the laundry, we really, really regretted not going to the ceiling with the bathroom tiles. If you **think** you might want the tiles to the ceiling, do it when you can. Thanks mate.
