Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Aug 02, 2010 4:58 pm Ok, so hubby REALLY wanted a spa in the ensuite, which meant that instead of having the shower up one end, its been done as shown, I'm just not sure I like the vanity right next to the shower. For one, I have 2 glass walls to clean, instead of just one... Have you got one? Can I see?? Sell me on it! It started as a swtich design, but we've made a fair few changes! my new build thread- Ben Trager https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=89826 my switch build thread (2011) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=36569 Re: Shower right next to vanity 4Aug 18, 2010 11:45 pm Just make sure there is a big enough gap to put your hand in there to clean. we have a bathroom with the glass being about a cm away from the bench which makes it impossible to clean, so has dust and whatnot there. Re: Shower right next to vanity 5Aug 18, 2010 11:48 pm I learnt the hard way with that too, you have be very creative with long rullers and wet tea towels to get in there Follow Feggle viewtopic.php?f=31&t=34992 Follow lilfeggle viewtopic.php?f=31&t=37149 Asbestosis Sux! Don't breath in Asbestos Re: Shower right next to vanity 6Aug 23, 2010 9:58 pm When I had my house built in 2000 the builder said that by law (in the ACT) there was a minimum gap size required between the glass of the shower and the vanity or no gap at all. If I recall right the min gap size was 50mm. The space where I wanted to put a 750mm vanity was 780mm, so it only left 30mm, so it wasn't possible. He gave me the choice of either a 600mm vanity or a custom built vanity that filled the entire space. To do the entire space I would then have had to have had a wall built adjacent to the shower to waist height with the glass on the top or full height, so even more cost. Due to finance constraints I opted for the 600mm job and hated it ever since as 600mm is way too small. A few years back however I got jack of the small 600mm vanity I went and brought a 750mm vanity and have no issue what so ever with the 30mm gap between vanity and the glass. There is plenty of space to get in and clean though the gap does look a bit odd. So I think when when I refurbish the bathroom sometime over the next year or two (provided the wife and I don't sell) I think I will try and change the shower size to make a 750mm vanity fit perfectly and go for the half wall or even full wall option next to the vanity. As to the OP, the issue I see in your plans is what to do on the side near to the spa bath. You are going to need a screen of some sort to stop water splashing onto the vanity. Now if the bath and vanity were the same height it would be a no brainer but seeing as they will be different heights I think it might look a bit messy. To a certain extent you will have the same issue at the shower end, though if it were me at that end then I would change the whole lower part of the screen to a solid tiled wall with glass on the top. Re: Shower right next to vanity 7Aug 23, 2010 10:26 pm Hi AJW - i've had a bath next to the vanity's and had no issue with water splashing on the vanity - but on the shower end - bricking in up to vanity height and glass on top does work- i have seen it houses over here more and more - i think alot of builders have clued in on the gap between vanity and glass from showers and have changed it Follow Feggle viewtopic.php?f=31&t=34992 Follow lilfeggle viewtopic.php?f=31&t=37149 Asbestosis Sux! There was enough of a gap to get inbetween to clean. We have done away with the spa this time round as we literally used it twice in the 2 years we were there and I was sick of having to still clean it all the time because of dust.
