Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Aug 01, 2010 2:28 pm we have a wall where some water is coming through the wall from the shower. I have checked the grout, which is in good condition, and there are no visible cracks. How successful are the various 'stop leaking shower' companies ? I have seen a couple advertising in my local paper, one of which is ' megasealed ' They seem to involve applying a waterproofing product over the grout, and also possibly removing some of the old grout I will be getting some quotes and finding out about what warantees they offer Re: perth-leaking shower -fix ? 2Aug 01, 2010 2:55 pm You need to make sure there isn't a leak behind the wall from the taps. One way of checking is to put a cap on the pipe where the shower rose is and then turn the taps on, which puts the pipes under pressure. Take the cover plates off the taps and see if there's any water running behind the wall. You can do this by yourself before calling in a plumber Re: perth-leaking shower -fix ? 3Aug 01, 2010 6:05 pm If theres a decent leak once you have done as Aaron & Erin have suggested (which does work), put your ear against the wall at the back of the shower, if you can pick the height of the leak through hearing where its leaking, cut a hole and see if its leaking. We have fixed one showers' leak like this, worked from the back of the shower to replace the split pipe without having to disturb the shower enclosure itself (no retiling or resealing needed) We had a leaking shower in our house in Alice Springs, ended up being the waterproofing went only 20mm up from the floor, got it fixed for free but took three weeks, new sheeting, tiles and paint. Houses in Perth are generally double-brick, so I'm not sure 'cutting out the wall' will be viable unless he gets a plumber in anyway. Carl, we have never had to call on someone like that, but my first port of call would probably be to a plumber? Sorry I can't help with recommendations of those shower fixers though. The two I have done have been plasterboard and cement sheet so they're a tad easier than brick. Re: perth-leaking shower -fix ? 7Aug 03, 2010 12:19 am the leak is quite low down on the wall, so i think it is most likely from a leaking crack in the grouting where the floor joins the wall. the walls are brick, so not easy to cut inspection holes. it looks like the shower sealing companies use epoxy to seal the grout that has cracks/leaks but charge over $500 DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair Hi, I've got a brand new (2nd hand) Bosch Hydropower 16H tankless hot water heater.
