Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jul 25, 2010 4:09 pm Hi! We're in a two bedroom apartment in an 'upper end' suburb with mainly houses. The apartment block itself was built about 50 years ago and the fittings reflect that! A really expensive high school is just across the road. We're currently doing a 'cosmetic renovation' on the bathroom... and not sure whether to keep the Shower Over Bath or to just flick the bath and have a schmicker-looking shower only. I personally love a bath, but it is super tiny and does drag down the feel of the space. We plan on renting the place out in about 6 months and don't plan on coming back to use it ourselves. I'm wondering what will make it more 'rent/saleable'? A shower over bath or just a shower? Thanks! Clair Re: SOB - to keep or not to keep!? 2Jul 25, 2010 5:50 pm Obviously, it's never going to be a family home but sometimes adults like to have a bath too! If I were you, I would keep the shower over the bath, but upgrade the bath to something with spa jets, then have a really lovely shower head, clear glass shower screen and beautiful tapware. Re: SOB - to keep or not to keep!? 3Jul 25, 2010 6:31 pm Personally I would say ditch the bath, a 2br flat demographic would prefer a shower than a bath/shower IMO. Renters are likely to be a young couple or 2 seperate people/friends. A shower alone will also open up more space. A bath in a 2br apartment is fairly extravegant unless it is a massive apartment (which it isn't since you mentioned it was small). Re: SOB - to keep or not to keep!? 4Jul 25, 2010 7:04 pm Yes, people would generally prefer to have a shower but would still love a bath from time to time! Myself and DP are a young professional couple in a 2 bed apartment and I can't tell you the amount of times (in the 2 years we have lived here) that I have had a hard day at work and would have loved to have a bath to relax in. Definitely not essential to have a bath in a small place, but if you do keep the bath make it a nice bath! Re: SOB - to keep or not to keep!? 5Jul 25, 2010 7:08 pm I'd ditch the bath. Having a bath in a rental wasn't really high on our priority list... although I LOVE having a bath. If it came down to choosing a place to rent... I'd pick roomier bathroom, over bathroom with bathtub. Re: SOB - to keep or not to keep!? 7Jul 26, 2010 10:27 am So 50/50... great! I might check with some real estate people.
