It wasn't built by AV Jennings by chance was it? We are also looking at bathroom/ensuite renos and would love to see your after photos once they're done. I personally am so over all this dark "chocolate" cabinetry that's so popular right now so would stick to plain white like your kitchen and laundry. Am looking at cafe latte colour floor tiles and white tiles on the walls - like you, we pretty much are doing it up with the intention of selling up in a couple of years so don't want to go overboard - just want to keep it simple and stylish; hopefully it won't be dated by the time we sell. I also am not a fan of the pedestal basin, especially in a small bathroom, since this cuts in on a lot of usable storage space. When I'm looking at buying a place, storage plays a huge part in my final decision. BTW: your kitchen is gorgeous! Did hubby put that in as well? Was it a flat pack? Re: Bathroom & Ensuite reno, would love your thoughts please 7Jul 24, 2010 10:07 am Thanks everyone so much for your replies! Lee75 - wow also the same shower screen? Lucky you!! I think we will probably use the same tiles as well, hopefully we can find a good deal as well. Yes the disruption won't be pleasant, I think 1 bathroom at a time so we have a functional one at all times. We also have an 8 month old who is crawling everywhere so will be hard work I am imagining! kek - I love those shower screens/panels, I will have to find a way to fit one in somehow! I did consider the pedestal basin, but we're so short for storage in this house as it is that the more the better. I think we will go with a neutral look with white tiles, thanks for your suggestions. I agree, we have waited this long to do the bathrooms then will be out of here after living with those awful ones all this time! Bel - thanks for that, when you say an end hob, what does that mean? So no benchtop over it, just tiles down low?? Biff - haha I love George Constanza! I would love to see a pic of your bathrooms too, how funny. I can see why it was so popular, such a lovely look inthewoods - I actually have no idea who built this house, most likely AV Jennings too then! It was so hideous though, our kitchen was horrid before with brown vinyl bench tops, yuck. Your colour scheme sounds really nice, and I don't think we will use the pedestal basin as we need every inch of storage! Thanks I looooove my kitchen! Yep hubby put it in, he even did the 2pac with my Dad (he's a french polisher). We had a good friend work at a kitchen place and he did all those up for us so not a flat pack, very handy! He doesn't work there anymore though, damn. We got it really well priced too, soft closes and all, loove it! Will definitely post some pics when we're done, hopefully sooner rather than later. Thanks again everyone, keep the ideas rolling in!! Cheers, Brooke Re: Bathroom & Ensuite reno, would love your thoughts please 8Jul 24, 2010 10:16 pm Well it's not exactly the same but there are certainly similarities! It's now gone to a better place........the tip R.I.P Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Renovation Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=38489 Re: Bathroom & Ensuite reno, would love your thoughts please 9Jul 24, 2010 10:20 pm Oh and does that mean in 30 years time people are going to look at our bathrooms and say 'what were they thinking!?!' Renovation Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=38489 Re: Bathroom & Ensuite reno, would love your thoughts please 10Jul 25, 2010 9:43 am Hope the photos work. Our bathroom was similar layout. This is how we did it. I thought rather than have a block at the end with wasted space I'd put a place for the clothing bin. Sorry about the mess. Re: Bathroom & Ensuite reno, would love your thoughts please 11Jul 25, 2010 8:21 pm If you desperately need the storage in a vanity cabinet, have a look at the shallower ones, with semi-recessed basins. They're designed for tight spaces and will give you more room. They also make the room look bigger. Something like this: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Or a wall-hung unit will also make the space seem bigger: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And go for the biggest mirror you can. Did I already say that? Re: Bathroom & Ensuite reno, would love your thoughts please 12Jul 25, 2010 8:30 pm i think the others have given good advice on what to do. just wanted to ask if the house will be for you guys to live in or will you re-sell? I wonder if it's for resale, whether having matching bathrooms might work better. But if it's just for you guys, do whatever you like. My ensuite and bathroom are completely different. But no one ever sees them both except for us, and they are several rooms apart, so I don't think it matters at all. and it allowed me to get a bit creative which was fun love your kitchen/living/dining! the blue accents are wonderful, I personally love the feature wall as is and would leave it! I think the feature wall painted a neutral brown colour would really set off the gorgeous blue splashback (which I might add is exactly the same colour blue glass splashback I'm nagging hubby about for our white kitchen). Dulux Warm Neutral and Hogs Bristle are beautiful colours. Re: Bathroom & Ensuite reno, would love your thoughts please 14Feb 16, 2011 4:07 pm Just bumping this one up to ask:- Honeyfly (or anyone else with the same bathroom/toilet configuration as Honeyfly), just wondering whether you got round to doing your bathroom. Would love to see pics! I need inspiration. Re: Bathroom & Ensuite reno, would love your thoughts please 15Feb 19, 2011 8:27 pm inthewoods - we are in the middle of doing our ensuite right now (finally!!). Haven't started on the main bathroom yet. We have bought the tiles for it though. I will certainly update soon, hubby is about to start the tiling and he put a channel tile-insert grate in so it should look pretty good! Can't wait! Re: Bathroom & Ensuite reno, would love your thoughts please 17Mar 10, 2011 8:19 am Hi Warry, Sorry for the late reply I have been away. I think the splashback is Dulux Baby Motive half-strength and the feature wall is the full strength. I hope I have that the right way around! Re: Bathroom & Ensuite reno, would love your thoughts please 18Mar 30, 2011 8:09 pm Hey there, I'm based on the Sunshine Coast too and have recently (well, not so recently now 4yrs, still feels like new though) completed a reno on my bathroom - now looks fabulous. I've also had it treated with EnduroShield to seal the glass as well as Tile & Grout. We don't ever have mould in the grout now where we couldn't get rid of it before. Also our glass always looks like new and is easy to clean. We have a couple of rental units and couldn't afford full bathroom reno's on those but had the glass restored and EnduroShield applied to glass as well as tile and grout. These units are mainly occupied by uni students and transient people so we didn't expect the bathrooms to stay very clean but I must say that when I do my annual inspections there is never any mould and the glass still looks like new! Worth a try to anyone installing a new bathroom. Re: Bathroom & Ensuite reno, would love your thoughts please 19Apr 15, 2011 7:47 am Honeyfly, if you're still out there - I promise this is my last question! What sort of flooring have you put in? It's just stunning! Since you have it in your kitchen and laundry, I'm assuming it's not real wood but please correct me if I'm wrong. Good luck with your bathroom reno and please remember to post pictures for us to drool over! Re: Bathroom & Ensuite reno, would love your thoughts please 20May 15, 2011 6:32 pm Sorry for the late reply: The floors are a real floating timber called Kempas. It has been fine in the laundry with minor spills until we had a washing machine leak while we were away which has damaged some of the floorboards and we need to replace them. So if we had a reliable washing machine and taps it would have been ok! Only negative I would say is that it does show up all the dust and bits of fluff easily and I have to vacuum pretty regularly, which is a good thing with a 1 year old I guess!
