Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jul 14, 2010 11:26 pm Hi everyone Im just going over my species for my house and im not too sure what size tiles to have on the bathroom floor and laundry? I really like the 600x600 but im just wondering if they will look too big. I think ill have the 300x600 for wall tiles so do you think they would look good together? Cheers Brett Re: 600x600 Bathroom floor tiles?? 2Jul 15, 2010 9:35 am depending on how big your bathroom is, it can be very hard to get the falls to the floor waste right - often it involves segmenting a tile (which I personally don't like). Personally in such a small area I reckon 300x300 is about right, but thats just me. Agree Re: 600x600 Bathroom floor tiles?? 5Jul 15, 2010 10:55 am hmm I was just about to come in and say that large tiles look great and go for it. but maybe it would be too hard in such a small area. if you are using 300x600 on the walls why not just continue this size on the floor? we have that size on our floors and walls in bathrooms and laundry and it looks fine, and the grout lines match up nicely and all that. Re: 600x600 Bathroom floor tiles?? 6Jul 16, 2010 11:02 am I'm with donuts. 300 x 600 is plenty big enough. We have done a bathroom with different colours for the floor & walls in the same tiles & the effect is really good. The only reason we used tiles this big was that it was a very small bathroom so the less busy the better. Re: 600x600 Bathroom floor tiles?? 8Aug 01, 2010 11:30 am I got 600 x 600 in my small bathroom, the same quality italian porcelain tile as I used in the kitchen (both rooms visible from hallway) but a different colour. I am so glad I got big! Less grout is better too, especially in a wet area. You will need a good tiler, tile shops can recommend. A a lot of thought is needed in the placement/cutting of the tiles also. Good luck, Sharene (won't let me upload pic) Re: 600x600 Bathroom floor tiles?? 9Aug 03, 2010 12:37 pm Unless you are using a slot drain running across the room the largest you should go on the floor is 330x330. With a typical waste point you need to introduce a conical fall all around the point. The larger the tile the harder to do, and also the placement of the waste is important. If the waste happens to be close to a wall this makes it even harder. Yes bigger does look better but you dont wnat to have pooling of water after you shower, or a lot of extra cuts to make it fall. Also I beleive a big tile on the floor works where you see a number of bigtiles, as the eye is drawn to the perimiter of the tile. If you have lets say 2 and 1/4 tiles at 600x600 on the floor you loose the effect. Big is good, but you need to see full big tiles if possible. Cheers hey i agree, 600x600 is going to be very very difficult to grade, a drain grate is probably the only shot, personally i love stormtech drains we laid 300x300, the tilers had to cut the tiles, if we werent building through a project builder i would have had the drain Re: 600x600 Bathroom floor tiles?? 11Jan 29, 2011 10:57 pm Hi I'm resurrecting this thread as I'm considering using 600x600 floor tiles in a 3000x3000 bathroom we are going to renovate. It will have an 1800 bathtub and toilet on the floor, a hanging vanity and a frameless showerscreen with a slot drain (1000+). Will this work? Can I run the tile up the two sides of the bath? Thanks Possibly both depending on the sizing. Idea of working from the centre is that you dont have a 20mm thin tile at one end and a 400mm at the other end.
