Re: Floating Vanity..... 4Jul 01, 2010 2:26 pm Ours is pretty long - around 2.5-3m in length as our ensuite is also pretty big. Our main ensuite is larger then a normal family bathroom as it is the only ensuite with a bath (the kids' ensuites are only shower / vanity / toilets) For some reason I have a figure of $1000 in my head but am not sure why? Plus our builder went bankrupt so even if it was quoted as being that it probably wasn't as they went bad from underquoting on everything LOL. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Floating Vanity..... 5Jul 01, 2010 2:37 pm Haha that's funny. but feel sorry for them too. But I must say I can't imagine builders go bankrupt for under-quoting stuff..is there anyone out there that decent? hahaha I guess I'll soon find out at pre-start:) Hope it's no more extras.................. Re: Floating Vanity..... 6Jul 01, 2010 3:19 pm In our case it was a shame as they were really good builders - our home is testament to that. BUT they probably did themselves out of around $100k on our quote - and from stories we have been told they had a history of doing it. Underquoting meant they got the job but they then had to try and find the money elsewhere. That alongside other management issues meant they went under. Good for us - not so good for them and their tradies. We tried to do our bit by rehiring all the tradies and paid them promptly and the right amount to finish off the home. Some things are worth waiting for. Re: Floating Vanity..... 7Jul 01, 2010 9:48 pm Hi Saemiseon, Here is a pic of our ensuite with floating stone top, and lower separate floating cabinet (still awaiting 2pak finish) http://i998.photobucket.com/albums/af109/mymoogles/DSC06694.jpg Building on the Sunshine Coast - Land settled 22nd July 2009 Building contract finally signed (after much deliberation on our part) 11th November 2009 Building commences 25th January 2010 - small local builder End of June - almost completed fit out 26th July - MOVE IN DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Re: Floating Vanity..... 11Jul 02, 2010 10:03 am We sort of have them in each bathroom (sorry do not have pictures). They look great, make the bathroom feel more spacious and I would definately recommend. Actually ours are cabinets on a small pedestal, so they look like they are floating. Our cabinet maker recommended we do them this way because in his words, unless you reinforce the structure with steel, a fully floating cabinet will sag over time. In our case, you cannot see the the pedestal and I don't think the cost was any more than had they been sitting on the floor. Re: Floating Vanity..... 14Jul 02, 2010 2:17 pm Someone just had another thread about the same style of vanity..... Have a look in the bathroom threads - it was only a couple of days ago. Basically it is like a small box the vanity sits on top of - in which hides the pipework. You tile it the same as the floor tiles and it "disappears" from sight. Some things are worth waiting for. Ours said the exact same thing, so had to have it all reinforced and steel brackets attached to the wall before gyprock when on... Your pedestal idea sounds great!! Re: Floating Vanity..... 16Jul 02, 2010 3:09 pm Oh I get it... like a plinth in the kitchen cupboards? But wouldn't it be funny if I raised it up quite high.... like Suh's ensuite. I remember seeing her bathroom on the other thread... and it's quite up high. If it's little bit then tiling would cover it and it'd look like floating, but if it's quite high up...it might look odd....imo. Thanks guys for wonderful info anyway. you guys are great!!!!! Re: Floating Vanity..... 18Jul 02, 2010 4:34 pm Moogles, love your vanity...heck, wonder what my plumber would say to a floating top!! But then I'm sure he could easily make something up!! But I'm not sure… 3 4588 Thanks, that's the motivation I needed to give it a try sooner rather than one day! 4 2060 |
