Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jun 28, 2010 10:54 am I had an enquiry recently where someone asked me about putting a "wet look" sealer in their shower. He did state that it was only for the walls. I bascially said its not something i recommend as i beleive it's a lawsuit waiting to happen. Due to the fact that it could become slippery and a big danger. I very quickly became the bad guy for not selling him what he wanted?? He rudley asked how walls are an issue for slip when you stand on the floor I know ppl probably don't think about issues when they want a certain product but i steady myself on the walls when getting in and when washing my legs. When cleaning the shower i also use the walls quite a lot to steady myself or get some sort of weight behind me. Obviously there is a degree of non-slip in most ceramics/porclein tiles otherwise how would they be allowed to be placed in a wet area? Overcoating them with a topical sealer can reduce even remove the non-slip of the tile. I offered alternatives but was quickly ignored. Interested in opionons here? Was i wrong? Do ppl have wet look sealers in thier showers and is it common practise? Re: Wet look Sealers in Showers? 2Jun 29, 2010 9:31 pm I counted 4 questions: Yes yes yes & yes Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Wet look Sealers in Showers? 3Jul 01, 2010 4:00 am A few thoughts.... Although you make a valid point, perhaps you could have put it another way (other than mentioning lawsuits). Example.... A while back I had a near new Nokia mobile phone which accidentally took a dive into the dunny! I took it apart and dried it out but it wasn't working. Took it to the Nokia Customer Service Centre, took a number and waited in their flashy place for my turn. I notice signs about the place declaring to all that their staff are instructed not to serve customers who become hostile or abusive. Hmmm, funny that.... After about 15 minutes, I get to sit and tell this guy the problem. I want to know if the phone can be fixed. He tells me after taking my details "the warranty on your phone is now voided. We cannot fix it and even if we could, we would not warrant it, and your warranty is void anyway." I explain "I understand about the warranty, but its near new and I want to try to get it fixed! If you can't (won't) who can I go to?" He maintains he cannot help me, and again goes on about the flukcen warranty. I go elsewhere and they take it apart, clean and dry it and its fine. Has been fine for the last 2 years, no thanks to Nokia! So you see, I was pi$$ed off because they were only concerned about saving their own bacon than giving me assistance. Back to the sealer question.... Most people know that its slippery in a shower and take it on board that its their choice to have a finish that they want. If you explain well that using the product has the risks you mention, it is his choice if he takes that risk. It would be a hard one for him to come back to you with lawsuits just for selling it. Probably a different matter if you actually applied it for him, but that's not the situation here. Also, I would doubt that a topical sealer would actually hang on to smooth ceramic tiles in any case, and would look crap as it peels off. That could have been explained to him also to deter him. Its good that you take safety as a professional responsibility here, but perhaps you were a little over-cautious and could have dealt with this guy in a more productive way. But then maybe it was just a day that the guy was gonna get shitty in any case? Cheers! Ash. Re: Wet look Sealers in Showers? 4Jul 02, 2010 2:36 pm Thank you for your feedback Ash. Very informative, perhaps you should be a mod I did offer an alternative to the customer but he obviously decided that that wasn't the direction to go. Next time perhaps i will use your line about looking crap on that type of tile and hope they listen. Cheers. Re: Wet look Sealers in Showers? 5Jul 03, 2010 2:24 pm No probs. Perhaps a product such as this may provide the sort of benefits he was looking for? http://nanokote.com.au/glass_ceramic.html Ash.
