Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jun 27, 2010 6:16 pm i am looking for a shower base with a 50mm hole in it. all i can find is 80mm hole. or advice on laying a slab as a shower base. i have a concrete floor and would want to tile it if i have to go down the concrete route. the base will be 93mm x 93mm and about 80mm high. do i need to put in any steel reinforcing? and has any one had any experience with waterproof membranes or is there an additive i can add to the concrete mix to make it water proof? Re: shower base 2Jun 27, 2010 7:57 pm Hi, You can easily get a 80mm to 50mm reducer/adapter. I don't know about the reo question, but I've just spread a gallon of waterproofing membrane, and it is like thick paint. The main thing to pay attention to with it is the need for bond-breaker tape at all corners and joins. There is lots of info on how to use it on the net. Cheers Re: shower base 3Jun 27, 2010 8:48 pm samks, I take it you mean 93cm or 930mm (a standard shower base size) ....you want a 'dry pack' topping.. sand and cement and a primer, a tile shop will help you with the mix but not the application - on this good luck... On the waterproofing you can buy any number of liquid applied waterproofing membranes to provide a barrier. Make this the expensive one and save some money later on. Where you are coming from is where you are going to... I have seen poly marble shower bases last in excess of 30 years 1 4492 I've filled, levelled and compacted around 100mm of roadbase in preparation to lay some outdoor court tiles. Prior to doing the final compaction, I dusted the top with… 0 3037 I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says. Thanks 2 9535 |
