Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jun 16, 2010 11:32 am I'm a new user to this so I hope you guys will be able to help me We are building a house, upto lockup stage today hopefully! I need to pick the basins for my bathroom - the style of basin will just be the normal standard one. Where I am having problems is the material/product it's made from. A new house I previously lived in (company housing), I'm not sure of the material the basin was made out of it and I find it really hard to explain but it just didn't have that real ceramic / polished finish.. it didnt feel smooth and it picked up stains SO easily! It almost felt chalky or plastic? You'd clean it, then wash your hands in it an hour later and the dirty water would stain it straight away. I want like a sturdy, ceramic and smooth looking (and feel) type of basin - I guess like basins or bathtubs you see in older houses - the type of material where you give it a clean and its like new. I live in the Country (about 1600kms from Perth) and I just don't have the option of going into a warehouse or a shop and running my hand over a 100 basins and knowing thats the one! So I was hoping that maybe someone has come across the same type of issue and can tell me the best type (material) of basin to get? If I don't pick something myself then I will just get the standard basin that my Builder puts in - and I'm worried its going to be the horrible one I hate! Thanks Re: What type of material should my basin be made of? 5Jun 16, 2010 4:04 pm You've probably and acrylic sinks (which I've lived with for 18 years and sick of them). Look ok, if you like that sort of thing. Re: What type of material should my basin be made of? 7Jun 16, 2010 4:31 pm I think the good ones are china basins. We're having 3 of those after living with the acrylic ones. At the end of the day there is nothing wrong with acrylic and they are cost effective but the others look classier and stand up to wear and tear well Handover February 2011 Happy with our home Re: What type of material should my basin be made of? 8Jun 18, 2010 12:07 am Please choose ceramic basins! we have just swapped out the plastic basins in our 10 year old house becuase they were so bad. Ceramic ones are not much more than the plastic ones, and last sooo much better! Same with tap ware and toilets - avoid plastic at all costs! Everything has been swapped at our house!
