Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 20, 2010 7:27 pm Hi everyone I'm meeting the tiler tomorrow morning at 9am and I'm wondering if I should use the plain white tile between the mirror and vanity or use the feature tile from the shower.... Here are the colours for the main bathroom Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And here is a pic of the bathroom so far Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I took photos of the tiles at the house yesterday and just realised they gave me the wrong tile!!! They gave me this one instead of the correct one which is shown above! I much prefer your initial feature tile choice btw. The rectangles trump the squares any day. Re: Should I use the feature tile under the mirror? 4May 20, 2010 7:57 pm Your feature tiles are gorgeous - and EEEEK!! They gave you the wrong tiles? I'm sure your SS can sort that out though, no worries. It's not like he needs to move a window or anything. But I'm with suh and Fel, I like the idea of the white tiles as a splashback. But had them changed about 2 months ago to the rectangle one. And they only provided 1 sheet of them kek Your feature tiles are gorgeous - and EEEEK!! They gave you the wrong tiles? Thanks Kek The only reason why I thought about throwing the coloured ones there was because that benchtop is white (I actually thought I chose a different laminate for there, but didn't) lol@ the window. I can't be to harsh, at least they didn't say "to bad" I'm not having much luck though am I lol Re: Should I use the feature tile under the mirror? 6May 21, 2010 12:15 pm Hi Frogger, I'm going to go against the grain here - I am having my feature niche tile as a splash back between the stone tops and mirror - mainly as my stone tops are pure white and I didn't want a white tile right against it. Haven't got to tiling yet, so no pictures to show, but I am happy with my choice and feel it will look good. So its definitely not a case that you have no taste, it absolutely personal preference, and sometimes its great to get opinions, but its also good to go with your gut feeling too!!! TRUST YOURSELF lol! Building on the Sunshine Coast - Land settled 22nd July 2009 Building contract finally signed (after much deliberation on our part) 11th November 2009 Building commences 25th January 2010 - small local builder End of June - almost completed fit out 26th July - MOVE IN DAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Re: Should I use the feature tile under the mirror? 7May 21, 2010 1:09 pm I'm also going against the grain and saying the feature tile - as we didn't do it and regret it!! We also were choosing between the rectangle and the square feature tiles and we couldn't get the rectangle ones straight away so had to go for the squares - I wasn't 100% but in the end we did them as a splashback in the powder room and I love the look of them there - i so wish we had of done it in the bathrooms too now!! I really think the squares look much better laid than they do in the sample sheets. Our bathrooms are quite plain though with white tiles everywhere else so the feature wouldn't have overwhelmed the look of the room if that makes sense. My karma ran over your dogma Re: Should I use the feature tile under the mirror? 8May 21, 2010 1:16 pm Moogles Hi Frogger, I'm going to go against the grain here - I am having my feature niche tile as a splash back between the stone tops and mirror - mainly as my stone tops are pure white and I didn't want a white tile right against it. TRUST YOURSELF lol! hahahaha Thats what my mum says to me all the time. I have no trust in myself at times and I should stop it! I think I am leaning towards going the feature tile. I'm doing it in the ensuite, but just wasn't sure about this one. Thanks haywgl I'm also going against the grain and saying the feature tile - as we didn't do it and regret it!! Hey there I'm leaning towards having the feature tile...but just not sure. If the benchtop was not pure white, I think it would be a easier decision...but its not and theres also a lot of white in the shower. I guess I have to think of it...if I don't like it, its easy enough to change later Re: Should I use the feature tile under the mirror? 9May 21, 2010 1:38 pm Nice and simple - White! I think the feature would end up adding too much of dark features/colours, plus it could be a pain in keeping the grout clean just because there would be more of it! Oh, your wall color is just beautiful!!!! [edit ... later ... ] And NOW I've read your post above how you probably prefer the feature !! My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Think it looks good As long as it is only the width of that top one you chose, otherwise it'd be too much. Built with New Generation (Summit Homes) We own land!... with a slab on it! Thanks Lex, I'm glad I changed the wall colour Hmmm another white vote...this is making hard lol tinkster Go with your gut frogger, use the feature. I'm not real sure what my gut is saying right now lol Candylea We have a feature tile running along the bottom of the mirror, then the plain tiles under the feature. Well... because I have the basins that sit on top, the tiled splashback will be more than just row of tile. It will at least be the height of the basin I'd say. Re: Should I use the feature tile under the mirror? 13May 21, 2010 7:33 pm Ooooh, sorry for making it harder for you!! But, I just revisited your vanity and realised that it butts the wall fairly close, like a couple of cm max. So, if you put mosaic/stripey tiles, you'd have more trouble cleaning the grout lines ... maybe. Maybe you can seal them as soon as you move in ... And probably more importantly, they would be "hidden" behind the vanity quite a bit, so why bother ... They would look great against the white walls & b/top, but so would white. White would also allow the cabinet colour to stand out and be the focal point ... just my 2 c ... My signature is distracting people from my wise posts ... Re: Should I use the feature tile under the mirror? 14May 21, 2010 8:40 pm Are you only getting either the feature tile or white tile, or a combination? Coz I was saying put your white tiles on the bottom and then the feature above them.. so they are right underneath the mirror.
