Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 19, 2010 12:29 pm Put this in my kitchen thread...but prolly needs to go here.. Reno on a 23 year old house...bathroom original... Some before and during pics so far. It's been 2 weeks since I said 'bathroom starts next week'....but the tiler who tiled the kitchen splashback and said he'd be back to grout tomorrow......never showed....and the builder cannot get in contact with him. He was 'supposed' to come last Friday to concrete and screed the shower area ready for a tiled floor....and no word. Anyway, today the builder comes to at least replace some of the plasterboard that we damaged taking off the tiles ( my goodness they were on fast...looked like black rubbery glue) and to replace the bench with Diamond Gloss white valencia ...a new vanity basin and tapware...put in studs for the heated towel rail..and update me on the tiler situation...and if we will get another guy.. From my post on the kitchen thread.. You can see the old tiles (chipendale they were called lol), basin and bench....ugh - nice in 'it's day'...and we did like it when we first came here. The new basin will be much the same. We can't go too contempory in a Victorian reproduction type home. We will have a frameless glass shower, keep the existing bath and layout and new DG benchtop ( white Valencia).... So it's pretty much just a re-tile (floor and walls), bench, new taps and fixtures and shower screen. The timber vanity unit will remain. The new tiles....wall ( will be tiled to the ceiling ) is the one on top and the floor tile is beneath it. There will be a border of the white 'flowery' tile/thing about picture rail height around the room. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The bathroom at present.....half de-tiled lol..... (edit - oh no it wasn't ) Hopefully some progress today. Re: Bathroom reno 3May 20, 2010 5:45 pm Hope your tiler shows - the new tiles look lovely. Bet they're even nicer on the walls. You know the easy way to remove tiles? You just cut around the tiled section, right through the pasterboard, with a Stanley knife and remove it in one piece. Takes about 10 minutes. Then you nail up some new waterproof board, seal the joins and you're good to go with the new tiles. We reno'd two bathrooms and our tilers did it that way where the tiles were stuck directly to the wall. I know, it's a bit late now.... Re: Bathroom reno - more update pics 4Jun 14, 2010 2:53 pm Thanks Kek...that is exactly what they did...sliced out tiles and all..and replaced plaster. All my tile removal for nothing ( and bruised fingers - arrghh) When the shower hob and shower was pulled out there was quite a bit of water damage. The hob was rotted ...and water under the floor tiles. We had to set up a column heater to dry it all out. The builder ended up getting another tiler..who finished the grouting in the kitchen...( after 3 weeks of non-grouted tiles)..and screeded the shower floor with concrete on Friday ready for tiling over this week. Tomorrow he will waterproof the bathroom...and Weds begin tiling the floor...finishing Thurs (hopefully) Some more update pics - See the wet area? I have a small bathroom, trying to work out if I can fit bath, separate shower and vanity in there. As a short term fix (while I agonise my way through a kitchen reno) - I want to paint over the oh-so-attractive green marble pattern lamipanel and the green walls - the walls are easy - has anyone had any experience in painting over lamipanel? Not a long term solution - maybe 12-18 months, but I'm sooooooooooo over green!
