Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 May 07, 2010 6:47 pm I was very, very unhappy with the temperature in our ensuite last winter. We had gas ducted heating included in our base price, and I intended to add heating ducts to both bathrooms, so they'd be warm and toasty like the bathroom in our old house. I also wanted one in the laundry, for clothes-drying purposes. The only problem was, the unit supplied for our house only had scope to add one extra point - if we wanted more we'd have to upgrade to a bigger unit. That wasn't a problem for me at all, but my incredibly stingy husband refused to do it. So I got my laundry duct, but no bathrooms.
Why I capitulated, I don't know - somehow he convinced me that one of those heat lamp things in the ceiling would be fine. Of course, it isn't. The damn ensuite is 11 or 12 square metres or something (OK, I just checked and it's 8-point-something m2. Big, anyway), with 9' ceilings and it's bloody COLD in winter. His punishment for being so tight-fisted? Putting up with my endless whingeing for months last year. It obviously got to him, because yesterday he bought me one of these: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ http://www.thermofilm.com.au/products/elex/elex_euro.htm I set the timer and this morning I got up to a lovely warm bathroom.... Now we just have to mount it on the wall. Re: Bathroom heating 3May 08, 2010 9:43 am Southies, you clearly don't whinge enough. We've had a few cold-ish mornings, but I've said nothing recently - obviously last year's mammoth complaining efforts are indelibly etched into his memory. He just rang me at work and said "I've just ordered and paid for a heater for the ensuite. You'll have to pick it up from Tullamarine on your way home. Now I won't have to put up with your whingeing all through winter". That's what I call success. I think he's seriously regretting not upgradng the gas unit.... After all, his motto is: Happy wife; happy life. Who's the champion? Re: Bathroom heating 4May 08, 2010 9:49 am Oh, BTW, it works really well. It's just a nice, even heat - when I walk into the ensuite, there's no temperature difference at all between there and the bedroom. This one doesn't have a fan, it's just a lovely warm radiant heat. The timer is fantastic - you can program it for individual days, but so far I just have it set to run between 6:00am and 8:00am every morning. You can also set the temperature to whatever suits you. I've just left it at the default setting of 21C. The one I really wanted had a completely smooth, blank front panel and was only 25mm thick - but to get one that would heat that space, we'd have had to pay a lot more. This one isn't quite as attractive, but it's not ugly, and at 100mm thick, it isn't exactly bulky. Best of all, it was ony $240. There are cheaper ones, but those I've seen are all fan-assisted, so they chew up power, plus they'd create cold draughts when you're wet and naked.
