Can i have your thoughts on this please, (There are 2 adults and 2 small children) Our other thought was solar HWS except the tank will sit on the front of the house (as its facing north) and it wasnt quite the look i was after after spending all this money I would apprectiate any advise on this Our Acreage Build The Lakeview Lodge - Beechwood Homes 01/04/10 YES 2010 - Deposit paid 23/09 - PCI CANCELLED 28/09 - PCI - will it happen.-18 months later 07/10/11 - ITS OURS..WOOHOO Re: PLease help - for those with gas HWS and on bottled gas 2May 05, 2010 10:06 pm acrebuild1 So we wil be on bottled gas at our new place (for gas heater, gas cooktop and gas HWS) and our builder came back and said basically that if we were to have gas HWS we would be chewing through the gas like no tomorrow. So everything else in our place is run on electricity, though the HWS is solar. Built the Eden Brae Cambridge 34 Family with Boston Corner Facade Re: PLease help - for those with gas HWS and on bottled gas 4May 05, 2010 10:57 pm yup bottled gas is expensive. we had bottled gas for stove top and hws in the rental for 2 adults and 2 kids ( 11 and 14) youngest had to be chased out of the shower. I really prefer to cook with gas but because of the gas cost we ended up going all electric with a solar hws. I's suggest to just do stove top in gas as this isn't too bad. We decided to opt out of gas so we didn't put in the piping purely for the stove top. ( we'd been advised to go electric boost for the solar hws rather than gas boost by the solar hws people) Our refills were over $100 per bottle Just found this post I did last year.___> We are on gas bottles here in this rental and would be again if we were having gas at the new house. Family of 2 adults and 2 kids. We have showers not baths and use cold water for the washing machine not hot. For stove top and hot water system only, not heating we go through a bottle approx every 3 months and they are around the 110-120 each time. We have 2 bottles. One on the go and one filled and ready for when the first runs out. pricing and time estimate is DH's since he's been dealing with this for the last 16 months. If you were to use it for heating the house it would be massively more expensive. Also in the same thread Onc said he goes through 2 large bottles a year for himself , missus and a 17 yr old. For just cooking. Refilling will cost us either $30 or $90 . Sorry, can't read my own notes from a year ago But either way, it's dirt cheap. Wow thats cheap, We brought a gas heater last yr for the house we just sold and we went through about 4 bottles at $132 per bottle Oh i dont know...I just dont know what to do. Im really thinking of going back to electric cooktop now, with electric HWS with heat pump and only having bottle gas for the heater - FWIW our last house was a very very cold house and the heater ran all day some days, the new house will be facing the right way so will be alot warmer, plus slab (the other house was raised) Im so confused with it all. I just wish they had underground gas Our Acreage Build The Lakeview Lodge - Beechwood Homes 01/04/10 YES 2010 - Deposit paid 23/09 - PCI CANCELLED 28/09 - PCI - will it happen.-18 months later 07/10/11 - ITS OURS..WOOHOO Re: PLease help - for those with gas HWS and on bottled gas 7May 06, 2010 8:13 pm We have spoken about it alot today and we decided to go back to electric cook ware - electric HWS with heat pump and only have LPG gas for our heater. We are not allowed an electric HWS by our council and have no access to natural gas so we are on the bottled for our cooktop. We were told that it would cost us approx $900 per year for the gas hws but when you install the heat pump you can get some sort of rebate from the Govt which helps to offset the initial extra cost of the heat pump, about $2000. The savings in running costs should cover it in about two years, so we were told. Re: PLease help - for those with gas HWS and on bottled gas 9May 07, 2010 11:46 pm I need to find out about the rebate cause i have only been able to find a $300 rebate. If you can find info about the $2k rebate can you let me know. (or do you mean the pump is costing that....? our builder is charging $1850 for the pump) After looking at cookware today we will have to go with gas cooktop on bottled gas now. So everything will be electric but the cooktop and gas heater. I think electric HWS are fasing out due to the amount of enegy they chew. It went above my head until I looked it up on the net last night after I posted here. It doesn't look straight forward at all, It's not really a rebate as such. Best you google it and see if you can make head or tail of it! - Then explain it to me! Re: PLease help - for those with gas HWS and on bottled gas 11May 10, 2010 3:17 pm Will do, ill also ask the builder about it as they acutally mentioned it in the tender. No it isnt. A heat pump would be the best alternative to LPG, if a solar collector isnt doable. The rebates have changed in that one year ago, I bought my Rheem 320 heat pump for $2900 and got $3800 back in rebates and now youll pay about $3000 for an everhot 280 liter unit (made by rheem sold by reece) and youll get about $2000 back. Although this changes on a daily basis as Recs points change. at the moment they are over $40 Re: PLease help - for those with gas HWS and on bottled gas 13May 15, 2010 9:10 pm Hi acre-we had bottled gas in our second build for cooktop, HWS and wall furnace and the heating really chewed it up..........we could tell by how many bottles we went trough every winter! With this build we are going all electric-with electric boosted solar hot water with the panels on our NE facing roof. (plus what ever we use for the gas heater over winter) hopefully we dont change our mind again. FWIW the solar HWS has the grids on the roof and not the big ugly water system. AND we might put in a combustion heater down the track - we have a fair few iron barks trees on the property that we could put to some good use.
