Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Apr 26, 2010 10:01 pm Can anyone help? This is our brand new acrylic bathtub in out brand new house. It has been scratched very badly by all sorts of rubbish being stood on by the tradies. No care or protection was taken. It had timber, nails, screws, plaster, bricks collecting in it. The scratches cover the base. We have been told by our ss that these will be polished out. Does anyone know if this is a process works? Has anyone else had this happen to them? http://i796.photobucket.com/albums/yy241/dainag_bucket/House%20build/072.jpg Re: Scratched acrylic bathtub problem! 3Apr 26, 2010 10:06 pm This might sound really silly but have you tried using those 'eraser' like sponges. They work a real treat. They won't get scratches out but it will remove the markings. Re: Scratched acrylic bathtub problem! 5Apr 27, 2010 7:32 am Yep, car polish or brasso also works. If any are really deep you can also use very fine grade wet and dry sand paper and then finish with the polish. Possumchops Now the proud owner of 3.7acres of Serenity. Colour selection completed! Soon to go to council. Re: Scratched acrylic bathtub problem! 6Apr 27, 2010 10:36 pm Thanks, all, for your answers. I hope you are right. Some of the scratches seem quite deep. Our house is 8 weeks over and it probably won't be finished till the end of next week. Then comes the Practical Completion Inspection. Something that I am dreading and looking forward to at the same time. Once again thank you. Yes, I believe it is a defect. I really don't know how I am going to get them replace the bathtub. We have had one wall of our ensuite shower wall tiled and re-tiled and it is still just as bad as the first attempt. We fought to get the portico built as it was promised to us. They did what they wanted saying that trusses were encroaching the space and it couldn't be done. We have had a small bulkhead added as it should have been according to our plans. These are just a small number of the obvious problems. Like a lot of folk, I am getting tired of fighting. They just keep building without fixing problems that are obvious. Now it is going to be such a drama to get a new bathtub as all the plumbing has been connected and the tiling completed. Zaphod, are they replacing you bathtub? I have had a look at your pictures. Builders need to be accountable. Which state are you in. I'm in Victoria. BTW, according to our records we are 8 weeks past completion date. We have never been told what day 1 of a build is. Can anyone help? What is considered as Day 1? Re: Scratched acrylic bathtub problem! 10May 05, 2010 10:42 pm Sorry, just realised other people had givn you similar suggestions so I googled for some help and came across this company, Inner Bath, that do bath inserts right over the top of your existing bath. It is probably a bot extreme for a scratched bath but it costs around $1,000 to do and looks like it is perfect for split baths, rust wholes, peeling baths etc. Check them out at www.innerbath.com.au Hello It is good to have a planned bathroom reno to suit your budget and design, living for 10 years I think you need a bathtub 4 7909 Hi Alex, Thanks for the reply again.
