Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Mar 27, 2010 7:45 pm Hi All, Noob here and to building so would like to know the correct things to do in the bathroom so i know my builder is doing the right thing ! Hopefully i can explain myself properly. My bathroom is 2.4 long by 1.8 wide, looking into the bathroom from the entrance the bath is on the righthand wall and the corner vanity is on the left hand wall we just have the shower over the bath and will have a screen on the side of the bath (all water outlets are in the end wall ) . Q 1 Villa board on end wall and right hand wall ?(Tiling to roof ) Q 2 Normal plaster on left hand wall and entrance wall and roof? (painting this ) Q 3 Cement sheeting on floor (Tiling this )? Q 4 Do I have to have waterproofing ? (Not yet a requirement in Tasmania apparently ) I know! We still living in the dark ages lol The above questions are currently what is being done at the moment they say you dont have to waterproof as the villa board is already waterproof the plaster will be painted and tiles and grout are also both water resistant, so any help you can throw my way in plain english would be good. Kind Regards And Thankyou For Your Time Herb P.S Waterproofing can still be applied to all areas if need be i can seal it myself if i have to (cant be that hard to paint on can it ?) Re: Bathroom What ? Where ? Going Nuts Lol 2Mar 31, 2010 6:17 pm I would suggest using waterproof... my parents house was built in the 80's without waterproofing and the shower had leaked behind the tiles and rotted all of the timber frame and there was also water damage on the plaster in the hallway (which was behind the shower) Just to safeguard yourself for the future I personally would do it! Going Nuts Lol 3Mar 31, 2010 6:33 pm Yes waterproofing is very necessary.. a tiling shop ( if you have one near you ) should have the elastomeric and flock glass premixed... in a bucket. Mainly it is the joins that pose the biggest problem, ie movement and grout errosion is what allows water to do damage. Corners should be of a flexable jointing compound NOT rigid grout. Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Bathroom What ? Where ? Going Nuts Lol 4Apr 14, 2010 1:00 pm Villaboard should be used on ALL walls. This can be finished flush, just like gyprock. Tile underlay to all floor area (Same as Villaboard but has the dots printed for ease of fixing) And yes you actually DO need waterproofing Not quites sure if Tasmania is exempt from this claus in the Building Codes of Australia, but either way, why would you not? The waterproofing of bathrooms is now standard, due to the damage caused by water ingress over the years, in houses that do not have adequate waterproofing. I would never build with Fowler homes. I built with them in 2021 and till date maintenance issues are pending.
