Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Mar 24, 2010 9:34 pm I know it is early days for us planning our new home, but I am considering having no shower screens in our bathrooms or at least none in our ensuite. Does anyone else have no screens and are they glad they did it that way? Toying with the idea of where you see the basins/mirrors as a feature when you walk in the ensuite and the shower would be behind that wall. I hope I'm making sense. Any thoughts? Re: Screenless Showers 2Mar 24, 2010 9:45 pm Hi Chook, We have no shower screen in the ensuite of our soon-to-be completed house and regrettably I don't think it will stay that way for practical reasons. As a result of a design problem, a blade wall does not extend far enough and I feel there'll be way too much overspray into the actual bathroom itself. I have priced frameless screens for the 860mm space and have quotes between $1300 - $1500 so it's proving to be an expensive mistake (and not really one of our making) as we feel that the architect should have had the expertise and foresight to have advised us of this. Nevertheless, what's done is done. Having said ALL of that -- I have experienced a shower without a screen which was built correctly and was absolutely wonderful! Just imagine -- so much less glass to clean. Good luck, Pix. Built a (highly) modified Allcastle Maxworth 38.7 in Sydney. Re: Screenless Showers 3Mar 26, 2010 10:34 pm Thanks Pix for your reply. What a bummer with your situation. I really dislink our shower screen in our current house and I really don't want them in the new one. Would love to hear others thoughts and photos if they have any to share. Thanks Helen Re: Screenless Showers 4Mar 27, 2010 12:48 am Hey Chook, we are going for the screenless shower in our new home both the main bathroom and ensuite the shower reccess is 1mt wide by 1.9m long and with one of these shower channels installed at the end under the shower head. http://www.veitchstainless.com.au/viewp ... ?product=1 also a pic in the above, slightly different to what are doing but the same concept. IMO for a screenless shower you need, a slightly larger space than the standard shower, the type of shower head selected would also have a diffrent outcome (spray patten) , a reflux valve installed to your shower waste, good drainage, a small round drain hole will not cut it. Re: Screenless Showers 7Mar 30, 2010 9:30 pm I wanted to do this, but hubby wouldn't agree... I believe that one of the biggest problems is overspray getting past the wall and hitting the tiles outside. I think you could easily overcome this is you were to add in a dropped section outside of your shower where you could put in a slatted wood floor mat that sits flush with the floor on the outside of your shower, and slopes inwards towards your shower for drainage. Would look magic with a grate drain running lengthwise along your shower across the doorway. I'm really wishing that I'd gotten this past the hubby - our main bathroom shower REALLY lends itself to this type of design, and it's less glass to clean! I guess he doesn't care because it's not him cleaning the glass Re: Screenless Showers 8Apr 06, 2010 12:13 pm We are doing this in our new place although construction hasn't begun so I can't comment on whether I like it or not yet. We walk in to the ensuite with the vanity as the feature and the shower is around the back to the left and the toilet around the back to the right. Re: Screenless Showers 9Apr 07, 2010 2:20 pm Thanks for all the replies and the link to the other thread Kex. At this stage our ensuite plan is the same as your Missy except the toilet and shower are on opposite sides...but that is still up for debate. The left side will have a high window along the outside wall. Maybe it would be better to have the shower that side for extra light. Is one of your side walls in your ensuite an outside wall and if so which side? Re: Screenless Showers 10Apr 12, 2010 8:50 am Hi Can anyone advise if it is possible to use a screenless shower with an front entry point? Im planning our ensuite and as its long and narrow space was hoping to just walk into shower and not have a screen, maybe just a small wall extension on either side and just slope the tiles back into a grate? Sorry if Im not explaining well we are new to this renovating thing and Im clueless as to terms! Thanks Candi ************* First time renovator VIC Re: Screenless Showers 11Apr 14, 2010 3:43 pm Chook 07 - yes the right hand side wall is external and has two 1.8m x .6m windows to give light to the room and the toilet area. We're hoping the room will have enough natural light during the day and we have a waterproof downlight over the shower area for nighttime/early morning if needed. This is the current bathroom with a european laundry. Overall internal dimensions are 3.69 wide and 3.65m deep, including the footprint of the laundry. There is a toilet… 0 784 |
