Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Mar 09, 2010 5:21 pm Has anyone put in a ceramic bath or shower shelf instead of a ceramic soap dish (which just seem to hold the razor these days). I am thing of putting in a 400mm ceramic shelf in the shower for all the liquid soaps etc and I am wondering if they look good. Cheers Lou http://take2-customdesigndownslope.blogspot.com 07-10-09 omg they have cut the block 14-05-10 we finally have the keys Re: Bath/Shower shelf.. 2Mar 09, 2010 6:26 pm I think it depends on your tiles and if the shelf comes in a matching colour and finish. We opted for no soap holder or shelf, because the only ones on offer were white (and looked rubbish) and our tiles were dark browny-grey. I'm still trying to persuade my husband that $250 for a flash glass shower shelf is perfectly fine. Meanwhile, we're stuck with those hanging chrome thingies. If I'd been able to, I'd have had built-in niches. Our builder wouldn't do them on exterior walls though, which meant they were out of the question for both our showers. Re: Bath/Shower shelf.. 3Mar 09, 2010 6:43 pm We bought some glass shelves at IKEA. Price was really reasonable. Just have to make sure we position them in the showers where people wont hurt themsleves on the square corners... thinking just above head height - still easy to reach the products Re: Bath/Shower shelf.. 4Mar 09, 2010 7:08 pm We have a shower shelf and it looks fine, it even looks straight... but it isn't straight cos the drainage hole is at one end and the water pools at the other end. Obviously the builder did it by sight, not using a spirit level, and it's tilted away from the drainage hole just enough to NOT drain. We've never fixed it cos we only started using that shower well after the maintenance period (there's a lesson, use everything during the maintenance period) in case we broke the tiles or something. Aesthetically I agree with kek, it depends on whether you can get one that blends well with the tiles, or, as in our case, the taps. You need to reference the manufactures installation guide, your supplier may have strengthened the base where it is not required to sit on a bed. 1 1782 Bathroom renovation will likely include a back-to-corner bath and we’re considering a freestanding tap with hand-held shower such as the picture included.
