Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 17, 2010 7:42 pm Just wondering what everyone's thoughts are... I really wanted a recessed shaving cabinet installed in my bathroom. It would never have been fully recessed as it still would have stuck out at least 6-7cms from the wall. Anyhow i have now been told that there is pipe running from the basin up through the wall (directly behind where the shaving cabinet would have been). This means the shaving cabinet cannot be recessed at all. Should i still go ahead with it? It will stick out from the wall 15cms. Will this look strange? Re: shaving cabinet recessed into wall 3Feb 17, 2010 7:51 pm i think they are all approx 15cms in depth. I've seen pics of bathrooms where the shaving cabinet sits between two walls.. this looks great. But mine will just kind of be floating on the wall.. is that what yours is like? Re: shaving cabinet recessed into wall 4Mar 09, 2010 11:14 pm My preference is to have it recessed into the wall. I had both styles in the same house and recessed means there is less chance of bumping your head when leaning over the basin. It looks much neater as well. I am building a new home soon and will have it recessed again this time. Make sure you order it with adjustable shelves (like book cases these days) as there are very different item sizes, and it means you can maximise the storage space by having like size items on each shelf. I always like to raise then a touch higher off the vanity top than a mirror to ensure clearance. Don't mind ysung the recessed look in our designs either but am always wary of the cut tile around the permiter of the cabinet. Must be done properly as it will stand out. I always try to hide cuts niot show them. Cheers charlie Hi Stuey, think you’ve got a couple of options here you’d just need to decide your preference/which options suits best. You could recess the windows (just keep in… 1 3954 I use Tramex moisture meter and it will tell me instantly if the wall is cement sheet or plaster or masonite but most people dont have the equipment. 5 7045 The gap can be adjusted so it's tighter. You can definitely set up corner cabinets to have the same gap as standard doors. 2 13457 |
