Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 16, 2010 3:05 pm We have to pick our tiles out this weekend! We dont feel ready to yet We are pretty much set on our main floor tile, so if we change our mind on the feature or contrast tile it shouldnt be too much of a concern. our floor tile is going to be a light polished porcelain with a grey pattern through it: our downstairs bathroom is going to be in this tile, as it continues on from the main living areas. We are going to do it up the walls as well. Im also thinking of keeping things safe and doing the upstairs bathrooms the same. What would you pick as a feature tile/contrasting tile. I was thinking a grey mosaic bath hob or wall, but I am not sure if cost is going to get in the way. I have seen some lovely ceramic tiles with gorgeous patterns on them, but I just dont think it would suit this other tile. Could you pick a contrasting matt porcelain tile to have on either a wall or the hobs? Downstairs has no bath so it would be a wall. Upstairs has a normal bath in one, so either the hob or I could keep the hob the same as the floor tile and do a wall, same as with the ensuite, but it has a spa with a step up into it. If I were to do the mosaics and go with tiling the hobs, would you tile only the front of the hob of the spa and have the actual tred of the step in the porcelain? So many decisions, way too hard! I need help plllleeeeaaaasseeee Re: Contrast / Feature tiles to go with polished porcelain 2Feb 17, 2010 8:54 am Anyone got any other ideas? Any pictures of what they may have used? Re: Contrast / Feature tiles to go with polished porcelain 3Feb 17, 2010 9:38 am we have just selected our tiles check it out on my thread. we were going crazy deciding. lots of emotions that day we are doing a feature wall in the bathroom with the porcelin tile. maybe you could use a plain white on the wall in the same size tile as floor and then a mosaic on bath hop and shower. good luck choosing and dont forget to post them after we love pics http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28326 Re: Contrast / Feature tiles to go with polished porcelain 4Feb 17, 2010 10:08 am Wow your tiles look lovely! I really like the glass mosaic. We keep tossing up between different looks but can never decide. I was thinking a darker contrasting tile for the floor and up one wall, but we have a problem with downstairs and main bathroom as the floor tile runs directly off it. Another thought was just the one wall in a darker contrasting tile, or the bath and spa hobs. But what kind of darker contrasting tile would go with the floor tile? Could we go matt porcelain? Would a darker polished porcelain really look ok? (Unsure about that) could we go glazed porcelain witha pattern through it? I just cant picture anything but the mosaic look! I think we need to go and measure the bath and spa hob square meterage wise so we know how much its going to cost before we decide which way to go. Here are my plans, I dont have any bathroom elevations, but if anyone could give comments on where they would put the mosaics, that would be great. We are going to a couple of tile shops this weekend, if we can get a good price we might even buy them this weekend. Downstairs bathroom, just thinking wall to the left (shower wall): http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac304/ms_builder/GroundFloor.jpg First floor bathroom - Thinking just the bathhob. Ensuite - thinking spa bath hob including step around it, plus wall where vanities are (keeping in mind there will be a large mirror there as well, so not a lot of tiles). will this be too much? http://i910.photobucket.com/albums/ac304/ms_builder/FirstFloor.jpg Re: Contrast / Feature tiles to go with polished porcelain 5Feb 17, 2010 10:16 am i have seen someone use a smaller version of there floor tile rectangle and run that up bath hob and shower ill see if i can find it
anhttps://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic ... start=140d post. Re: Contrast / Feature tiles to go with polished porcelain 6Feb 17, 2010 10:21 am Well the main floor tiles are going to be 600 x 600. Up the walls I was probably going to do 600 x 300. Not sure if its too safe laying 600 x 600 polished porcelain tiles on the bathroom floor though. upstairs I can get away with doing 600 x 300 for the lot because it doesnt run off the main floor. Ahhhh its way too hard! I wanna dig my head back in the sand. Re: Contrast / Feature tiles to go with polished porcelain 7Feb 17, 2010 10:27 am oops that link didnt work try againhttp://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=29781 check the bathroom section alot of photos and ideas. i think it would prob look more uniform to run floor tile throughout, havent liked them in displays when they have used different. just use walls as the difference. Re: Contrast / Feature tiles to go with polished porcelain 8Feb 19, 2010 10:13 am I have found a couple of photos that are similar to what im thinking... For ours I was thinking the wall as they have done but also the spa hob. We have a corner spa with a hob. If its going to be too much, I might just put it on the vertical part of the hob... Our wall is going to be the width of the vanity and the mirror is going to be much larger so it wouldnt be as many mosaics as the picture above. The smaller bathroom: My next question is, do you think these bathrooms would look as good / worse / better with the same tiles on the floor that are on the wall... Re: Contrast / Feature tiles to go with polished porcelain 9Feb 22, 2010 11:29 pm These pics were taken from a favourite show home of mine, this bathroom makes me say wow everytime i have been in it. Not sure if this is what you are after but they have used polished porclain tiles on the floor and walls and used a darker tile for the hob and niches. V Re: Contrast / Feature tiles to go with polished porcelain 10Feb 24, 2010 8:33 am all the sand, thank you for posting those pictures! it makes me feel a bit better considering what we picked on the weekend: Lighter one is polished porcelain for main floor tile and will be on all floors in the bathrooms and up the walls as well: Grey is a matt porcelain - will be up one wall in the downstairs bathroom, bath hob upstairs, spa hob and vanity wall in ensuite. Close up of main floor tile: Floor tile with laundry colours (lustrous elm with maybe ash white benchtop or maybe crystal salt) Bathroom cabinets will be burnished wood with a white style stone benchtop Re: Contrast / Feature tiles to go with polished porcelain 12Feb 25, 2010 2:10 pm No problems posting the pictures, they are just sitting in my 'dream home' file on my computer lol.
