Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 15, 2010 10:45 pm Does anyone know if there are standard cabinet depth sizes? Ours seem quite short. From contract to cabinet maker plans they state different sizes, hence the contract being the larger depth but they have put in a small depth. We think it looks funny and wrong!!! So strange. Do the depth sizes vary according to the type of basin you get installed? Any help would be appreciated. Re: Bathroom cabinet depth size-minimum standard size? 2Feb 16, 2010 1:34 am Depends on a few things, first is the size of your basin and if its undercounter or on top. Also the size / position of your mixer or taps. What are your sizes? Mine has an undercounter basin with a mixer between the wall and the basin, its 500mm deep, the height is 900mm. Re: Bathroom cabinet depth size-minimum standard size? 3Feb 16, 2010 6:16 am Dollar, can you post a pic? Shallow cabinets are usual with semi-recessed basins.... Re: Bathroom cabinet depth size-minimum standard size? 4Feb 16, 2010 8:10 am Yeah we have semi-recessed. Initially were just going to have the inset ones. So I guess if we it was deeper the basin would stick out alot. No huge deal just means less chance of making the cabinets messy. I don't like the look very much. A bit of an oversight maybe but more likely means it's something we may change down the track. I don't really have any that show the depth. I might measure them today. oooh I think the basin is 560mm x 480mm. Tap is a mixer. Re: Bathroom cabinet depth size-minimum standard size? 5Feb 16, 2010 7:03 pm I'm sorry you're disappointed. The shallow cabinet is normal with those basins - they're often used in small bathrooms, as they don't take up as much space, and the increased floor area can make the room look a bit larger too. I quite like the effect, but you do lose storage space. On the plus side, shallow cabinets make it much easier to find things. We had a ridiculous corner vanity in our old ensuite, and it was so deep that we had a daily frustrating search for the most basic items. Do you have room for additional storage, maybe a freestanding shelf unit for towels and pretty toiletries? Re: Bathroom cabinet depth size-minimum standard size? 6Feb 16, 2010 8:55 pm Thanks Kek. I don't care too much but just annoyed we overlooked this. It makes our bathroom much larger than what it already is and now it looks enormous. I thought the same too-an excuse to have barely anything in the cupboards and drawers. Our current cabinet in the ensuite I don't think gets opened much at all. In fact, it's full of rubbish-1/2 empty shamp & conditioner bottles, old perfume and so much other rubbish. Really we only open it up when we need more soap. Hi, only for walking.
