Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 11, 2010 2:41 pm Hoping someone with some plumbing knowledge can help here. Have 3 toilets in the house, all the same - Ideal Standard BTW Tonic's The water tank is on the LHS of the house with an Onga pump and switch. Going from photos of the rough in, I've worked out rough distances if that makes a difference. Working toilet #1 is downstairs, about 5-6m from the pump and on the same side of the house. Working toilet #2 is upstairs, about 15m from the pump and on the opposite side of the house. Problem toilet is upstairs, above #1 and about 10m from the pump. I noticed that the problem toilet, would not immediately refill the cistern on half or full flush. It appears to be intermittent in that sometimes after a couple minutes it will trigger the pump to refill. Other times it does nothing until one of the other 2 toilets are flushed. My plumber has offered nothing helpful other than its the distance of the toilet to the tank and there isn't enough of a pressure difference to trigger the pump so that is how it is. I've not made payment for the final fit off as that explanation is b/s cop out to me. The toilet is neither the closest nor furthest from the pump and the other 2 work just fine. If it cannot be resolved, my only choice will be to remove the "green" water line from the pump and loop it to the mains connection. Whilst probably illegal due to breaching my 5 star rating, it also leaves the tank/pump doing nothing and needing a new outlet connected to the tank for use in the garden! But I cannot have a non working ensuite toilet! Can anyone offer any ideas or tips on where to head next? Re: 1 of 3 toilets doesnt trigger water tank pump to fill cisten 2Feb 11, 2010 2:57 pm I'm guessing that your problem may be as simple as the inlet valve on the problem WC sticking. Has your plumber checked this out? It may be partially blocked or its simply sticking. If you shut the isolating valve at the wall and then disconnect the flexi connector from the cistern, get a bucket and then open the isolating valve, I bet water will flow out and the pump will activate. Do this a few times and if the isolating valve triggers your pump each time, then its not you pump. (i doubt that it is, because the upstairs and furtherest cistern are activating the pump). The pump is activated by a pressure switch which if it was faulty would display the same on all the pumps. Im a plumber and I see inlet valves that operate like yours every day. Im betting that if you replace it with a fluid master (if its bottom inlet) your problem will be solved Re: 1 of 3 toilets doesnt trigger water tank pump to fill cisten 3Feb 11, 2010 3:07 pm vvs mand I'm guessing that your problem may be as simple as the inlet valve on the problem WC sticking. Has your plumber checked this out? No he hasn't, too lazy I assume. I'll make him do it, otherwise he won't get paid and I'll find someone else that will. Wouldn't be surprised it if was partially blocked, I found lots of crap in the filter of my kitchen sink tap! I'm not sure how to get in there, the inlet is within the cistern on the top RHS. I went to lift the lid but didn't want to force it open so gave up. Will try to suss it out and give your tips a shot. Re: 1 of 3 toilets doesnt trigger water tank pump to fill cisten 4Feb 11, 2010 3:22 pm Where does the water connect to the cistern? 95% connect underneath. There are some, though that are a back inlet. You can easily see. If theres an isolating valve on the wall about 300 from the floor, youll find a flexible hose going up to the cistern. If you see no isolating valve or hose, then its a back inlet that connects in the back of the cistern and can only be accessed by taking the lid off. These latter ones are notorious for behaving like you said....jamming not operating and then working. Either way, your plumber should have done as I said to work out if its the inlet valve jamming. it would take him 5 mins. 90% its that. The lid, (if its a geribit) more than likely comes off by pushing down on one button and lifting the other with a screwdriver. then remove the other and youll find a screw underneath which loosens the retaining flange from the cistern lid. do it wrong and it will cost you $100 for a new outlet valve. Thats the one! Just rang reece to check how to do it. Push half Lift full Tubes? come out (said I'll know when I see it) then remove screw and lift off. I'll get the lid off and check it out. Re: 1 of 3 toilets doesnt trigger water tank pump to fill cisten 6Feb 11, 2010 3:48 pm The tubes are just small extension pieces that extend from the buttons to the actual outlet valve. one green and the other slightly different diameter is....white i think. If I do this and all is ok, is there anything else I can do myself? Re: 1 of 3 toilets doesnt trigger water tank pump to fill cisten 10Feb 11, 2010 4:05 pm ok if you have the lid off, you see theres an isolating valve there. check that its turned fully on. the first thing id do would be disconnect the hose or pipe from the inlet valve and see if theres water coming out. if there is....theres your problem...the inlet valve. but it might be best if you dont do that...they can be difficult to reconect and you might be voiding your plumber's work. just gently move the float on the inlet valve and see if its stuck. im almost sure the problem is with your inlet vale. its more than likely a geribit . sometimes plumbers dont fit them correctly and they jam really easy. theres not much room in a back inlet valved wc Re: 1 of 3 toilets doesnt trigger water tank pump to fill cisten 11Feb 11, 2010 6:44 pm vvs mand if you have the lid off, you see theres an isolating valve there. check that its turned fully on. Pulled it off, valve fully on. Can see what you mean about the space, really not much room to get the flexi pipe onto the plastic body on the right next to the bottom of the yellow/blue flush triggers. Wasn't going to pull it off as would have done more damage but when I was checking the fittings etc, the big plastic body which the flexi pipe was connected to move like a mm. Then it triggered the water. Did 5-10 half and full flushes and it worked fine everytime. Good timing too, the rain will top up the tank from my testing Maybe the plastic body thing that detects the water level was up against the bottom of the flush trigger body and all it needed was a touch. Should take a photo cos I dont think I am making any sense. Either way, it now works fine. Thanks heaps! Owe you a beer or 3! 18 90417 This is the current bathroom with a european laundry.
