Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 11, 2010 12:25 am Hey Guys - well we are looking at selling our house and there is one room we have been avoiding finishing. We renovated the main bathroom gutting it and starting again and it was such hard work we have been totally avoiding the ensuite .... but now there is no turning back so here we go! Thought I would share some of the wonderful "before" photo's and maybe get some advice along the way... The wonderful Spa... that leaks. We ripped out the pump and plugged up the jets but I have been climbing in and out of that thing for the last 2 years. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ You will notice what looks like mold on the tiles near the taps.... oh no, that is damp, the previous owners didnt seal the bathroom before doing the tiling so the bedroom directly behind this room needs to be dried out and repainted.... thankyou to the old owners. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The ridiculously long marble look benchtop in a lovely shade of pink with one tiny terrible cream sink in the middle.... Oh oh oh, and note the wonderful way the tiler hasnt continued the lines where the boarder ends under the mirror. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And finally the cheap cream plastic toilet that takes pride of place down one end of the room. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ All in all, a room I have learned to hate..... really really hate and I cant wait to finally get around to replacing it. Ok not so much the replacing it bit but what about the "its done" bit. Now that I have had my whinge tomorrow I will put a plan up showing what we would like to do with the space. I can't believe those unaligned tiles..... Maybe it was a DIY job? I know - we have been finding little issues like this all through the house so its not a surprise.... well its a surprise that I have managed to live with it for so long.... Next week the demolition begins. So here we go.... this is when bathroom design goes totally wrong. A close up of the tiling.... do you think the tiler was drunk when he did this or just didnt care. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ A close up of the very realistic marble look laminate benchtops....... dont really need to say too much here Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ A close up of the floor tiles, note how the pattern is the same on every tile.... fine but lets just put them all the same way around to make it even more noticeable! Alternate people!!! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And finally the much sought after frilly cream sink. True perfect here people, its hell to keep clean because of all the ruffly bits on the side. Oh yes you are going to get lots of satisfaction renovating this poor old lady. This will be fun to watch, but thanks for posting the extra pics fr a giggle P.S. that tiling job is abysmal. Re: Miss Vintages Bathroom Renovation 7Feb 15, 2010 12:18 pm Well I have picked my tiles which is a big relief. The plan is to use the big textured tile on the floor and running up the wall of the shower as a bit of a feature. The other tile is a very simple matt bone tile that will be used everywhere else. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The problem I am having is picking the colour of the cabinets. Originally I wanted something really dark as a contrast like this with the stone look benchtop and a lighter tone for the doors like this... Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ But now I am leaning towards all light tones..... Like this photo.... which do you prefer? Love your feature tile. Re: Miss Vintages Bathroom Renovation 10Feb 15, 2010 1:00 pm I like the idea of contrast and I like the idea of the beach. Personally though I prefer lighter colours. But, sorry to add this, but that textured tile, attractive though it is, says to me nightmare to clean in the shower. Re: Miss Vintages Bathroom Renovation 11Feb 16, 2010 2:03 am Lighter tones for me. Will reflect heaps more light and I think it's just me, but that combination looks far more elegant. I am really leaning towards the lighter tones but am thinking that the darker tones would appeal to a broader market and because this is just to sell I am really not sure.... keep thinking about it, I am sure I will have an a bright spark moment where I just know Macy - these tiles are actually my floor tiles, I had stacks left over and thought ... yay save more money. They have a slight glossy'ness to them which might make them easier to clean.... my floor tiles I havnt had too many problems with which is lucky. Ultimately and this is going to sound derrible..... really really terrible but I dont really care because I am selling it. As long as it looks good I am happy for cleaning to be someone elses problem. So there you have it. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Personally I like the lighter colours but I am thinking the dark will give more of a statement. I can only hope it looks ok now. Yesterday we relocated down to the family bathroom.... I never realised just how much stuff is in my bathroom but yes, it took a good hour to go through my 20 different moisturisers and ridiculous amounts of makeup. The room is empty and very echo'y and while I am sitting here at work in my airconditioned office my darling husband is home causing mayhem and distruction in the bathroom. In other news my tiler fell through so it looks like we will be doing the tiling ourselves. We save a fair bit of money but.... its going to be lots of hard work. Oh dear.... The house goes on the market 6th April and hubby is only home for 2.5 weeks so lets hope everyone can stick to my tough schedule! Re: Miss Vintages Bathroom Renovation 15Feb 23, 2010 3:30 pm Well its looking good. Couple more pics to add of the now empty room.... they didnt seal the wall before tiling and there is a section of the floor that they just left as sand... no concrete, but its going to come together.... I will make it come together if it kills me and my poor husband doing all the running around. Re: Miss Vintages Bathroom Renovation 20Mar 02, 2010 4:53 pm Agreed Kek - the pretty bits are all sitting in my bedroom cluttering up the space and I really want it all up looking pretty. Note the cement render on the walls, I did that .... oh yes, I am an experienced render'er now, still picking cement from under my nails but "I did that!!!"
