Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry Re: Toilets with cisterns in the wall 2Feb 08, 2010 5:01 pm As a plumber, I can say they are a freaking nightmare to work on.
They have an access panel that is invariably too small for plumber hands. The access panel, while big enough to change the bellows on them (most are activated by air pressure) isnt big enough to do much else with, so yes there are occasions where more drastic action may be needed. My advice is to stay away from them. . Re: Toilets with cisterns in the wall 3Feb 08, 2010 5:29 pm I love them too, apart from the extra costs involved and having a wall with access to the cistern was also told to keep away from them. Any problems and you need a plumber in to fix it. I think they look awesome, especially with an automatic sensor flush....hehe just to add to more costs and complex problems. Re: Toilets with cisterns in the wall 5Feb 09, 2010 3:29 pm I've seen a really nice system where the cistern is hidden inside a removable cabinet. You have the look you are after without the access problems. I think the company producing them is called "Geberit" but there's probably others. Re: Toilets with cisterns in the wall 6Feb 09, 2010 7:23 pm i was worried about the access too when i was considering one. someone suggested that because the shared wall was with the laundry i could make the access through there. not sure if thats true or not, but i liked the idea. Re: Toilets with cisterns in the wall 7Feb 09, 2010 11:03 pm There is nothing wrong with them, maybe the others bought cheap models or used plumbers that didn't know how to install them correctly. I have had one in my ensuite for 12 months with no problems and the second one is going in the main bathroom now. My brother has 3 in his house, no problems for 7 years. Everything the plumber needs to access is hidden behind the buttons in the wall. Advantages of an in wall cistern for me were: They look far better than a normal toilet - cisterns are ugly!, I also have a wall hung pan and together they make the ensuite look bigger. You can choose the install height, normal toilets you have no choice and are too low for me, mine is about 100mm higher than normal. Doesn't sound like much but its a lot more comfortable to sit on! The model is: Caroma Invisi Series II Wall Hung. The cost was $1050. I can add photos if interested... Re: Toilets with cisterns in the wall 10Feb 09, 2010 11:28 pm I've never even seen one before!! So am looking forward to your pics Doohan viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: Toilets with cisterns in the wall 12Feb 10, 2010 12:42 am How on earth would you fit your hand in that gap behind the button things?? viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: Toilets with cisterns in the wall 14Feb 11, 2010 1:26 am Get a new builder if he wants $2000, what a rip off - for a new build it should be no extra, apart from the extra cost of the toilet itself. As you can see from the second photo, it fits neatly into a standard stud wall... the same amount of work as a normal toilet. Anyway, there is nothing wrong with them, its the best thing i've put in my house. They are quieter too because its all hidden in the wall. Mine has a soft close seat and lid, everyone who visits my house wants one for their place. Use photobucket or imageshack to upload your photo then copy the link into your post, surrounded by Img. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ My ensuite is only 2 x 2 meters so the hidden cistern makes the room feel bigger. This is during install, 4 bolts at the bottom, 4 at the side, simple! .... + plumbing. Re: Toilets with cisterns in the wall 19Feb 14, 2010 8:28 am interesting that they cut your wall bracing to fit the cistern I've seen these in some high spec builds I've worked on and wasn't convinced. looked a little commercial, but thats just me. what ever tickles your bum... Er, no there isnt. from a plumber's perspective theres much more work involved in fitting wall hung pan and inwall cistern as opposed to the conventional. If I had time, Id make a list of the post install problems Ive had to repair or fix in respect to this type of installation. This is the current bathroom with a european laundry. Overall internal dimensions are 3.69 wide and 3.65m deep, including the footprint of the laundry. There is a toilet… 0 10339 Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that.
