Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 07, 2010 7:04 pm Hi everyone I have picked my tiles, but of course now I am doubting my choices. I am having a niche in the ensuite shower and I'm struggling in working out where to use the feature tile. It was suggested that I use it just in the niche itself. But I'm worried that it might stick out to much. The shower bases are just the white plastic bottoms. The shower wall tile is a largish white gloss rectangle tile The feature tile is mainly blues and also has a silver tile in it (not shown) I have not decided on the floor tile yet as I'm struggling with my carpt choices....I have few to choose from Any thoughts where I could use the tile?? Thanks Shower plan (shower is now 1200 not 900) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ overall plan of ensuite Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ colour scheme (blue/grey tile is the floor tile I was thinking of using...maybe to much blue??) http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq129/EljayC/IMG_0423.jpg Any suggestions welcomed Thanks Re: ensuite feature tile help 2Feb 07, 2010 7:25 pm Similar colours to us. Very nice. I think those feature tiles in the shower niche won't do them justice. What about a vertical line of them running through the niche to top and bottom? I think your colour choices are wonderful. Don't change them. If they did choose to have feature tiles they had them on one whole wall instead of a couple of rows or columns. Probably Michelle could give you the best advise. Re: ensuite feature tile help 4Feb 07, 2010 7:33 pm it is a beautiful tile (very expensive too...still not 100% sure if I can afford it) You think it would look o.k running through the niche?? You think just 4 rows of it running from the top to bottom through the niche? I would love to do one whole wall, but I just can't afford it Re: ensuite feature tile help 8Feb 07, 2010 7:53 pm mmm I was going to suggest Frogger do the whole wall in the 'feature tile' if you can afford it. if you can find an affordable tile that will provide the same impact then I would do the whole wall in that tile. Re: ensuite feature tile help 9Feb 07, 2010 7:58 pm I can't even save up for it, because the builder won't/can't tell me how much it will cost to lay it. For any tile other than your stock standard tile I have to pay extra laying costs I think each sheet and from memory they were 300x300 they were $35 I think...maybe a bit more. I do love the effect of having the whole wall done. I might look at some other tiles, see if I can find something similar but cheaper Re: ensuite feature tile help 10Feb 07, 2010 8:02 pm this is what the feature tile looks like in a whole piece Just ignore the other colours http://i440.photobucket.com/albums/qq129/EljayC/IMG_0396.jpg Re: ensuite feature tile help 12Feb 07, 2010 8:48 pm Frogger I can't even save up for it, because the builder won't/can't tell me how much it will cost to lay it. By chance the tile rep showed us a particular tile and it was the perfect one but of course cost a fortune. We love them. They are about $35/tile so yeah expensive. As for kitchen tiles, they also work out to be expensive. I think it's wrong you have to pay more for a tile that isn't 'standard'. Re: ensuite feature tile help 13Feb 08, 2010 5:08 pm Sooo its not a standard practise for builders to charge extra to have feature tiles laid?? Thats nothing! I'm going to get charged to have my floor tiles laid!!! I'm only allowed ceramic tiles, the tiles that I have picked are 'glazed porcelain'! They aren't ceramic and they aren't porcelain, they are a mixture of both. But they are treated, laided and cut the same way as ceramic. I just can't win, being hit left right and centre Re: ensuite feature tile help 14Feb 08, 2010 5:15 pm That's a gorgeous choice frogger. I would have a strip of three or five running vertically down through the niche. I think an even number of the tiles would look a bit funny, is that just silly? I'm the same with flowers in a vase- an even no. looks too even. Can't wait to see them on, they'll be worth every penny Re: ensuite feature tile help 15Feb 08, 2010 5:22 pm Felistopher That's a gorgeous choice frogger. Can't wait to see them on, they'll be worth every penny hahaha nothing silly about that...well unless we are both a bit silly, cause I usually do things in odd numbers I think I put 4 before, because thats the number that the tile lady put down on the paperwork. I haven't seen anyone else run their feature strip through the niche so was thinking it was the wrong/odd thing to do...I wish I could visualise it! I'm going to have to give thim some more serious though. Re: ensuite feature tile help 16Feb 08, 2010 5:30 pm How long is your niche? Will you be able to admire the tiles or will they be hidden? Re: ensuite feature tile help 17Feb 08, 2010 5:42 pm Dollar How long is your niche? Will you be able to admire the tiles or will they be hidden? on the plan is has it as 400 wide 400 high. I have no idea how deep it is though Re: ensuite feature tile help 18Feb 08, 2010 5:51 pm You could always consider going the whole vertical length of the shower- still through the middle of the niche- but from top to bottom ( if that makes sense.) I reckon that would look great how it would jut in for the niche and follow the wall down- a bit like a ribbon on a present. Hope you don't mind my rudimentary paint job... With it being surrounded by white tile and white shower base, do you think the feature tile is to..ummm strong... dominant?? Thanks for all your help everyone, I've been really worried about this lol Re: ensuite feature tile help 20Feb 08, 2010 6:20 pm Frogger, that's what I have been saying all along, as per the diagram, run the tiles from floor base to top through the niche. It'll look fab. Be bold and daring! The feature will look stunning and you will love it! Don't change it to something 'safe, bland and boring'. Thanks for the suggestion. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6139 the step up is 30mm and wanting it to be flat . how much does the concrete have to be lowered .we plan on removing bath and lenghten shower and adding seat. the old bath… 0 11835 |
