Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Feb 04, 2010 12:09 pm Hi all, first post and I need some help. My wife an I have an ensuite which contains a step up shower stall. It is not a modular unit just your bog standard frosted glass fixed panel and 3 piece sliding door (Shower area is 900 x 820 built in 1995). Both of us have problems with our backs and knees which makes getting into the shower a problem. We have a step made of timber which reduces the height we have to step up but I have had a couple of falls and we both feel we need to have a lower shower installed. A couple of contractors have said that it is impossible to do without even comming out to look at the job. (The joys of living in Townsville). Anyway construction of the shower stall floor is your basic white metal tray built up on a platform of timber with a 350mm tiled wall (blueboard and timber frame)to one side with a tiled face. The floor of the shower is 200mm above the ensuite floor height. We where told that due to the waste pipe we couldn't lower the shower floor. I don't see how this is a problem but then I'm not a plumber. After all that what I am looking for is to lower the entire shower recess to flush or almost flush with the existing floor. Can anyone recommend what I need to look at to achieve this? Budget ($7000.00) is tight for the whole bathroom make over and I am not too fussed about paint tiles etc just yet. Just need to get the shower sorted first and the rest will happen at a later date. Re: Step up shower stall renovation 2Feb 04, 2010 8:09 pm Without actually seeing it, and knowing how/where your waste plumbing goes, I can't be certain if it can or can't be done. Are you on slab or timber floor? If on slab it maybe be that whoever put the shower enc in originally just couldn't be bothered cutting part of the slab away to fit the plumbing in. I 'think' you may be able to get an enclosure from Marbletrend http://www.marbletrend.com.au/products/showersto work, either the Boston (pivot door) or maybe the Carra (corner slider). They are a little bigger though, if that is an issue. Quote: A couple of contractors have said that it is impossible to do without even coming out to look at the job. Is this crack showing some signs of bigger problems? Thanks for any suggestions! 1 2076 Take a pick with a level sittingo n the slab and a pick with a level sitting on the sill please. This will help us diagnose the issue and therefore a solution. RE,… 8 11351 |
