Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jan 30, 2010 4:16 pm It's only occurred to me in the past couple of weeks ago that the feature wall tiles we have chosen which will be layed vertically are white frost glass tile. Issue is, the main tiles are quite dark-near black but also seem to have a blue hue in them depending on the light and we have chosen a dark grout colour to match. However this means the white vertical feature tiles which are quite long will have the black grout going horizontally below the tile, so basically meaning there will be a dark grout line in between each tile. I think this might look funny. The feature tiles aren't flat but instead uneven (hard to explain). Do you change the grout colour just for those parts where the feature tiles will be or keep the dark grout? We were thinking of changing them to provide a more stream-line look. What do you think? Re: Bathroom tiles-feature tile grout colour? 3Jan 30, 2010 8:25 pm I would change it. See my thread, I have the opposite problem, they used white grout in my dark feature tiles! IF you change it through the builder they may charge you a fortune to do so, try bumping in to the tiler and asking if you buy the different coloured grout if he will use it. Re: Bathroom tiles-feature tile grout colour? 4Jan 30, 2010 8:47 pm Yeah I think we need to change it also otherwise it'll just look silly. I was planning on just letting the builder know for them to use the same grout as the other wet areas as we are having a whitish tile in those parts of the house. I'll go in Monday and see the builder. Now I am stressing about the wet area colours and wondering why we have chosen what we have. Ahhh I think it's just the tension knowing the cabinets will be arriving anytime this week. I worry so much as each stage progresses. Why does it have to be so complicated? What are you doing about your tiles? Were you going to have dark grout where the white tiles are as well? Get it changed. I will change ours Monday. Our builder has been excellent so far. Re: Bathroom tiles-feature tile grout colour? 6Jan 30, 2010 11:00 pm I wanted dark grout with the dark tiles. I have white grout with charcoal tiles. Hubby likes it, I hate it. I am going to live with it for a bit then colour it if I can't stand it. Re: Bathroom tiles-feature tile grout colour? 7Jan 31, 2010 11:27 am Dark grout with white tiles can be a striking feature, but if it's not what you want, get it changed now. We actually had to choose grout colours individually for all our tiles, so ended up with four different lots of grout. We went light grout with our dark floor tiles, but then matched grout colour to all feature tiles so it blended. We wanted the feature tiles to be the feature....not the grout. Re: Bathroom tiles-feature tile grout colour? 8Jan 31, 2010 3:24 pm There was going to be a cost of something stupid like $100 to have different coloured grout for the dark tiles on the wall. So that is why we skipped it. I just didn't realise the difference would be so stark. Re: Bathroom tiles-feature tile grout colour? 9Jan 31, 2010 6:25 pm Oh yeah we may also get charged for using 2 different colours for the ensuite. Re: Bathroom tiles-feature tile grout colour? 10Jan 31, 2010 7:08 pm or you could have it grouted as specified, and then colour-seal the grout afterwards. There are heaps of grout colorant shades to match whatever colour combinations you have. The beauty of this option is it not only colours the grout, but provides an excellent easy care seal, making maintenance a breeze! Ash. Re: Bathroom tiles-feature tile grout colour? 11Jan 31, 2010 7:42 pm Thanks Ash. Can you go from dark to light easily? Re: Bathroom tiles-feature tile grout colour? 12Feb 01, 2010 10:23 am It can be done, but sometimes needs an extra coat to give a good uniform effect. Its a better idea to have a reasonably light grout like beige or white, and you can colour-seal the areas you want darker as required. Thanks splashers, that makes sense. The waterproofing guy used this Davco product, I will raise the issue with builder and hopefully get resolved with him - if not… 2 12892 Hi everyone, Have just put a shower in the laundry and after only using it 2-3 times have noticed staining on the grout.
