Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry Re: Bathroom Heaters & Exhaust Fan with Light installation 2Jan 20, 2010 11:48 am I've just finished renovating my existing bathroom and looked into getting one of those heat/light/fans installed. I would guess that it probably depends on your house, but for me it was going to cost $250 (if I recall correctly) because it required extra wiring. By comparison, changing the existing light fitting was $65. I've just started writing a blog Re: Bathroom Heaters & Exhaust Fan with Light installation 4Jan 20, 2010 3:36 pm g'day one of these units can replace a light but you'll either have to buy the type with a pull string OR have ALL parts of the tastic come on together ( flick the switch and the heat/fan/light come on) .. the pull cord types dont work very well and the pull cord has the tendency to go a weird yellow colour. so for a wired option you need to get some more wires down to a switch. - tastic with 4 heat lamps a fan and a light you'll need an extra 3 wires to the switch. - tastic with 2 heat lams a fan and a light you'll need an extra 2 wires to the switch - and for the least common tastic with 2 heat and 1 light which you'll need 1 extra wire to the switch ( these are only used if you have an existing fan in the room ) you'll also find that if you have an existing exhaust fan you can loop off this to run the fan in the tastic so you have 1 less wire to get to the switch. this is the best idea because the small crappy fan in a tastic does stuff all !! you also have to consider the following items when choosing to intall one of these units: is there enough room in the ceiling for the unit ? is there enough space for correct airflow? is there a nice big wooden beam in the way ? tastics CANNOT be placed over any wet area i.e. shower cubicle, bath, basin. you could also be in the case where the current wiring cannot support such a load, so you may be dealt with a new wire back to your switchboard, circuit breaker... etc etc etc.. ( you can notice this when someone has installed one without looking at the existing wiring, when they turn the tastic on, some other lights in the house may dim ) ask your electrician expect anything from $200.00 plus to install Electrical - Automation - Smart wiring - New homes - Commercial - Data cabling] 1300 050 315 www.cenemelectrical.com.au www.facebook.com/cenemelectrical My home office is hot with computer equipment running virtually 18 hours a day.
