Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jan 18, 2010 7:47 pm Hi I'm wanting to have a frameless shower screen in my walk in shower that goes from floor to ceiling. The installer just warned me that this can cause problems with mould etc. He recommends that the glass does not go all the way to the ceiling. Has anyone heard this too or has had any problems? thanks Re: Frameless shower screen to ceiling - any mould problems? 2Jan 19, 2010 10:58 am I would tend to agree with the installers point of view. If you did do so you would have to ensure adequate ventalation of the area enclosed by the glass. This means a good air flow right arcoss the area. Putting an extraction fan in the middle of the area will only allow air movement from the open point to the fan. You may end up with a build up of moist air in the corners. Positioning of the fan is critical. Cheers Charlie Re: Frameless shower screen to ceiling - any mould problems? 4Jan 19, 2010 1:21 pm Oh I see, it's just the side frame, no door. I'm inclined to agree too, it could create a dead space for air circulation. One thing maybe to look into if you want to put the fan closer to the shower. I don't know if my understanding is up to date but it used to be that not all bathroom fans were approved for installation within the area where they could get splashed, eg right over a shower. I think even our replacement fan installed last year had something in the instructions about minimum distance from the shower. For installation over a shower you have to get a special fan. I have the fan at home so I'll read the installation instructions to see if there are any restrictions for the model i have. You can also look into an in line fan mounted in the celing. Then you run a flexible duct to a air vent you position where you want. This way the actual fan body is away from the ceiling as ina standard fan. Cheers Charlie 2 3380 Your shower screen has failed in the way it is designed to fail with tempered glass. You could replace it with laminated safety glass but make sure it has AS standards logo on it 1 7618 This certainly doesn't look good. I would be engaging with an independent inspector to have a look at this. As for the unscheduled site visits, most builders are quite… 1 21935 |
