Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Jan 18, 2010 3:57 pm This is one of the decisions that I'm struggling with for the build of my new home. It includes tiled shower bases, and I quite like the look of some of them. However, it has struck me that because the tiles run all the way through the entry/hall/meals/family rooms and wet areas that they will need to look good as a tiled shower base too. I'm struggling to decide on a floor tile that will also look good in the bathroom as a shower base. Show me yours ... please. Some people don't have time to do the job right the first time, but seem to have plenty of time to fix their mistakes. Tiles look nice when used as a shower base. No steps in your shower and the floor kind of "flows". Mine is the same as the floor and the shower walls. Re: Show me your tiled shower base 5Jan 18, 2010 9:07 pm I just have to paste netadelle's shower space, I'm completely and utterly smitten with it http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?p=392068#p392068 I'd show you mine too, but um, we aren't that far into construction yet maybe in a few weeks! Ours isn't recessed it just drops away. No hob at all in the ensuite shower but a standard hob in the main bathroom. Our tiler talked us into having the floor tiles within the shower area on a diagonal because he said it made for a much better fall towards the drain. I wish I'd researched into the long grate type drains though as I really like those. Re: Show me your tiled shower base 11Jan 21, 2010 10:54 am Thanks all, I previously didn't like the sandstone coloured bases, but this may have had more to do with the walle tiles, looks good with nice bright white tiles. Decisions are getting harder Any more? Some people don't have time to do the job right the first time, but seem to have plenty of time to fix their mistakes. We wanted those, but they didn't have them in the discount tile and stone place we got our mosaics from. . . boooo Vundaful. . . you'll get what's coming to you! TILES!!!!! Re: Show me your tiled shower base 14Jan 22, 2010 7:44 pm Love the pebble feature tile, looks great across the floor and up the wall. My husband and I are in a great deal of disagreement over our entire internal house selections, we have easily agreed on outside though. I'm tempted to give him one bathroom and I choose the other, and we fight it out over the kitchen Re: Show me your tiled shower base 15Jan 22, 2010 8:02 pm Edit: Ooops!!!! Sorry. . . . Thread hijack alert!!! Hey Fernyhouse, you're not alone! Phil and I have fought over just about every selection possible. We even fought over stuff that we ended up completely agreeing on! In the end, we decided to not try and make any decisions until the last minute, as we found that even in the short space of time between realising that we had to choose stuff, and actually choosing stuff, our tastes had changed anyway and we couldn't even remember what we liked in the first place. With the kitchen benchtop, I started off wanting a mink-colour and ended up wanting white, and Phil was the opposite! What a waste of good arguing! We clashed on the paint colour choices (of course). . . in the end, Phil said that he'd let me choose all the colours for inside, if he could choose the outside colours. . . ermmmm. . . . YES!!!!!!!! We love the pebbles too but the grout looking a different colour cos of the water on the floor bugs me! It can't bug me too much, though, I don't get down and dry the shower floor! Re: Show me your tiled shower base 18Jan 26, 2010 10:07 pm Oh, and here's our newly tiled ensuite shower. . . no hob. . . double shower. . . no more fighting! We fell in love with the tiled floor wastes the first time we saw them in a holiday cabin a couple of years ago. .. then we saw the trench grate wastes (like in jbdave's pic) and loved them even more! Our plumber and builder had never fitted the grate wastes before though, and they were a lot more expensive so we decided to err on the safe side and go for the tiley ones.
