Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Nov 27, 2009 9:44 pm I need an expert's advice about screeding the slab in the bathroom. The difference in level between the concrete there and the estimated finished floor level elsewhere is approx 57mm. Into this I need to: stick on 10mm thick Marmox insulation board on a 5mm of glue, put on top a 2mm thick wire mesh, tie down to it 6mm thick electric floor heating cable. All this adds up to approx 23mm, leaving 35 mm for the concrete screed, tiles and their glue. Less 10mm for glue and tiles it's 25mm only for the screed at the thickest point, less around floor waste. Is this enough ? Because if it isn't, I'll have to forget about Marmox insulation. I'm getting conflicting advice from tilers and floor heating suppliers and I hope someone will clarify the issue for me. Nothing that has lime in it Almost dry, damp sand/cement mixed homogenous(sp?) and grit could be used as an extender (aggregate) no more in size than 1/3 the screed thickness at the thinest point any good So far no failures lots completed Where you are coming from is where you are going to... There are plenty( a tile shop will have what you want) ... but ask for what you want or you might be unlucky The screed will set hard and the waterproof membrane will cover any defects Where you are coming from is where you are going to... Re: Bath Floor Screed thickness? 5Nov 28, 2009 3:35 pm hi, hope this sheds some light.
In SA (regs vary from state to state slightly) they recommend a fall of 1:100 for the main floor, ie 10mm drop per m, so the size of the bathroom needs to be taken into account. (a 2m wide room with a floor trap in the middle will need a drop of 10mm, but if the room is 6m wide you will need a 30mm drop) Your shower is a seperate issue again and needs a steaper fall, but this shouldnt be a problem as you could always put in a hobb if necessary. In addition the top of the tiles is usually 10mm above the finished floor level, and will then blend in with a carpet or tile floor in your ajoining rooms, so you may really have 67mm to work with. Hopr this is of some use. Re: Bath Floor Screed thickness? 6Nov 28, 2009 3:59 pm Good pick up Hills Guy Where you are coming from is where you are going to...
