Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Nov 25, 2009 10:02 pm Hi! We have three showers that are each around 1m wide by 1.5m long. i'm looking to use just a framless screen without the door. Has anyone done this and liked/disliked??? My reasons for it is the ease of cleaning; childrens fingers not getting caught in doors etc. My main concern is the loss of heat. We're having the 3 in 1 heat/light/exhaust fans installed in each of the bathrooms. And the size of each bathroom is 8m2 (shower has 2 walls surrounding it tiled), 6m2 (other 3 walls surrounding it tiled and 4.5m2 (other 3 walls surrounding it tiled). Can anyone can offer some advice??? Thanks! Re: How effective is a frameless shower screen without door? 2Nov 26, 2009 5:50 am My SIL has frameless shower screens and she said they have nothing but problems. Every time someone has a shower, the water leaks every where and goes all over the bathroom floor. To make matters worst, the floors are marble and a now stained very badly from water marks. Also, our builder told us not to go for frameless but rather semi frameless for exactly the same reason. Just IMHO Hope this helps Mrs B Re: How effective is a frameless shower screen without door? 4Dec 02, 2009 9:08 am I have a walk in shower recess where the walls are tiled with no door..... no glass at all. The water does splash out the end a bit and it did get quite cold in winter with all that nice steam escaping but the mess isn't that bad and we don't have very cold or very long winters so I am happy. Re: How effective is a frameless shower screen without door? 5Dec 02, 2009 9:20 am They actually work well if they have been designed properly. By this I mean a LONG shower space, so the water can not escape out the entry. More like an industrial style shower. Not too many people have that much room in their bathrooms! But obviously its always best installed from the start of a new project. I spoke to a shower frame provider and they said if the edges on the floor and wall are siliconed as well as the using the clips then the leakage should be reduced. Solman, they also suggested the grates to me, so I'll go and have a look, most of the ones I've seen look too commercial for my classic looking bathroom, but they think they have one that may suit. Michelle, would you consider 1500 long? Thanks again! Re: How effective is a frameless shower screen without door? 8Dec 06, 2009 3:27 pm This is pretty much the size people go with. IF the shower is done properly with the drainage grates at the entry and its siliconed up, 1500 should be fine. The agents weren't happy… 2 4246 Your shower screen has failed in the way it is designed to fail with tempered glass. You could replace it with laminated safety glass but make sure it has AS standards logo on it 1 11172 |
