Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Nov 22, 2009 9:03 pm Hi all, We're having a 900mm x 1200mm shower in our en-suite and while trying to plan the tiling, am wondering which wall one would normally have the tap/s? We're having a shower rail (one only) with a mixer tap... The tiles I've picked are 100 x 400 alabaster tiles which will be stack laid. These will fit 3 across the 1200 length, but 2 plus 100mm along the 900 side - so planning to fit a 100 wide strip of feature tile down the middle of the 900mm side... just worried that this will not be possible if this is the side that the shower rail and tap will go. One suggestion I've had is to use strips of the floor tile (actually the matching wall tile equivalent) as the feature which may work if the rail and tap must go on that wall. Is it just personal preference or is there a norm? Thanks, Roz Land settlement = 23/09/09 YAY!! In my shower, that's the short side and the feature tiles are on the long side. Re: 900 x 1200 shower - where do the taps go? 3Nov 23, 2009 7:17 am My mixer and shower are on the wide side with a glass shelf to the side. The shower rail is centred and the part where the hose comes out is to the left. The door is semi frameless which opens opposite the narrow side. Re: 900 x 1200 shower - where do the taps go? 5Nov 23, 2009 5:39 pm Thanks kek, Taffy and Djelibeybi for the input. It does look like it will depend on the side that the door will open on, which is obviously dependent on the actual layout of the bathroom. Our door will open on the long side as the vanity will be too close to the short side. I guess it would make sense then to have the tap/rail on the short side... will have to check this with the builder. Will have to then check whether I can still have the feature tiles centred or whether they'll have to go toward the corner... Thanks again, Roz Land settlement = 23/09/09 YAY!! I'd always have the taps and shower head on the short wall if there was a choice. At mum's old house we had a 900 x 1200 shower with the head on the long wall and it sort of defeated the purpose of having a bigger shower. You move further under the water or further back from it, head under to rinse shampoo, etc. Or alter the angle of the head to spray lower so hair doeasn't get wet etc. With it on the long wall, you move to the side and the water just hits the glass screen on the other side. Hard to explain what I mean, but everyone who used the shower said it would be better if the head was on the short wall. These are ours, but the screens aren't on yet. http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u353/joles_photo/2009-11-12_12-58-30_121120091399.jpg Ignore the extra tap and the dumper for the purpose of this discussion. http://i519.photobucket.com/albums/u353/joles_photo/2009-11-12_12-29-55_121120091388.jpg I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Makes sense the way you explained... will have to think about how to do the tiling, just didn't want one strip of 10cm tiling... oh well, I'm sure there's a way around it so it still looks good Land settlement = 23/09/09 YAY!! What colour tiles are those? I'm thinking of doing the two shower head thing too but plumbed to the same mixer as I've heard of people having water pressure issues with both on. And I agree that the head should be on the short end, that said, as a guy I generally don't have need to do the gymnastics that you girls do in showers Bathroom renovation will likely include a back-to-corner bath and we’re considering a freestanding tap with hand-held shower such as the picture included. My hesitation… 0 24692 I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says.
