Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Nov 09, 2009 9:22 am We spent last weekend on a tile crawl - wasting lots of time and driving the kids mad as we really didn't know what we wanted for our bathroom we are renovating. Now I have done some research (maybe should have done that first...) and decided on large dark browny/grey matt or low sheen tiles for the floor, extending up one wall and the other walls similar tiles but in white. Nice & simple - is a small room. My question is, to get that sleek modern flat look, is it just about choosing large flat tiles or is there something different about the edges or laying them - in some pictures the tiles just look like a wall of ceramic with minimal grout. ?? Thanks in advance... Megan Re: Tile experts - some advice please? 2Nov 09, 2009 4:52 pm I think that you might (might!) be talking about rectified porcelain tiles. They have narrow grout joins. I think they may want to charge you a bit more for labour costs with these tiles. Re. how to get the look - not sure exactly, but it does depend on how much you want to spend. I also love that look, but I crossed it out because I didn't want to spend the money. We selected large format ceramic tiles (now need to wait and see how the clumsy selection turns out )! Re: Tile experts - some advice please? 3Nov 09, 2009 8:08 pm You'll get a nice uniform look if you match your grout colour as closely as possible to the tiles. Maybe not the same as the rectified porcelain tiles, but at least there won't be glaring white grout between your brown tiles, so the eye should just ignore the grout lines. ....In theory. I totally agree with everything you have written. Thanks again for your always excellent input and advice.
