Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry Re: Bath tub set into the floor 2Jul 06, 2007 9:15 am I think it is called a sunken bath. Won't work on 2nd storey of double storey house.
Need the space left in the slab if building with a slab. Not sure of any real advantages but some might find it easier to get into and out of. I think it is more about personal preference. Re: Bath tub set into the floor 4Jul 06, 2007 1:05 pm I'd be worried about the danger of someone falling into it. Re: Bath tub set into the floor 5Jul 06, 2007 1:13 pm commodorenut I'd be worried about the danger of someone falling into it. Just put a fence around it. Re: Bath tub set into the floor 6Jul 06, 2007 1:26 pm 3timesbuilda some might find it easier to get into and out of. I have lived with one of these - it was a very funky roman bath, and while they are easy to get into they are definitely not easier to get out of - stepping up approx. 500mm from the bottom of a wet bath to floor level. Another thing to consider is ease of cleaning - again, the bottom of the bath is well below floor level, so either you get in to do it or work kneeling with your head around floor level - not a lot of fun. Re: Bath tub set into the floor 9Jul 08, 2007 4:37 pm In actual fact, cookiemonster…. I did a rather large house, which had a HUGE sunken bath in the floor. The funny thing is the little lady of the house was short, and I dare say needed a snorkel to get into the bath!!
NOT MY DESIGN….by the way, BUT I did suggest a fence like enclosure around the bath for their 2 year old to be safe near. I swear if he fell in it, even empty, he would never get out! So your comment was not so off the cuff! And Pamela Anderson.. And Carmen Electra.. Re: Bath tub set into the floor 20Jul 13, 2007 4:48 pm That's not a sunken bath - that's a lap pool!
Or maybe a physio pool (with the rail). P.S Not all pool fences look like that! Some nice clear glass ones around - could work. But I think the lifeguard chair is a bit much...
