Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Oct 23, 2009 4:59 pm I found a design of a vanity I like. It has no base and is only attached to the wall. (similar to overhead cupboards in a kitchen, except with a granite benchtop on top). is this type of design (suspended) more expensive than having a base? (there would be less cubic meters of cabinetry by being suspended). (Though I don't know how they "suspend" it on the wall the take the extra weight of the sinks and benchtop - perhaps this requires really expensive wall brackets or something?) Re: "suspended" vanity - cost comparison - help! 2Oct 24, 2009 1:52 pm Not necessarily more expensive, however the weight of the vanity being suspended from the wall is not necessarily ideal. You can accomplish the same look by having the kickers and legs/base towards the back of the unit, which generally isnt viewable because of the limited space of a bathroom so it looks as though its floating, but isnt and provides the necessary support. Re: "suspended" vanity - cost comparison - help! 3Nov 02, 2009 10:42 am had one in the last place was only a 900 wide unit with a ceasor stone top. on it. It covered 2 studs i think and i had about 20 ~150mm screws holding the back plate on and the cabinet maker had used 20mm as the back plate off memory again with heaps of longer than 60mm screws. I thought it looked great, was easy to clean under, had the heater vent hiding under there as well, i would do it again. If yours is in a corner it makes it easier as you can support it from the side as well. Never ever budged or moved even with a full basin or being rested against it was as solid as a floor mount. Re: "suspended" vanity - cost comparison - help! 4Dec 12, 2009 6:55 am i am having a suspended vanity in two bathrooms -so far the cabinet maker has not mentioned anything about it costing extra.. it sounds like it's not that hard to install so fingers crossed it doesn't cost more Re: "suspended" vanity - cost comparison - help! 5Dec 12, 2009 7:09 am We have those in our bathrooms, I like them because the make the room look bigger. We had two people install ours. The were both around the $2,500 mark, that included the stone top on one and the other has a glass top, I am sure a joiner could make them cheaper Fair Trading can issue orders to rectify and complete but once the matter goes to NCAT these orders are automatically vacated.
