Browse Forums Bathrooms and Laundry 1 Oct 21, 2009 5:23 pm Hi I'm in the process of building a house. I'm wondering if my sizes of things in the ensuite are disproportionate ie will look funny. Any comments appreciated. Thanks The ensuite is rectangular 2000 wide by 3430 long. The shower is 2000 x 1200. the double vanity is 2000 x 550. the undermount basins are 540 x 340 each. the distances on either side of the vanity (ie shower at one end and wall at the other is 100mm) the toilet sits to the right. the distance between the vanity and the wall (where you stand) is approx 1450. the toilet sits in this space of 1450. Would you extend the length of the ensuite to put the toilet next to the vanity rather than have the toilet behind where you stand at the vanity? would you make the ensuite bigger to incorporate a bathtub (reducing the shower width and/or the vanity length) but then where would the toilet go (maintaining a rectangular ensuite) http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i80/danielt25/ensuiteplan.jpg Our "Better Homes Queensland" Cairns Build viewtopic.php?f=31&t=40451 Current stage - 1st builder's clean done. But even if it stays in there I think it needs to go somewhere else. In saying that, I wouldn't reduce the size of the vanity either- the size you have is perfect. I'm no help!!! Re: is my ensuite disproportionate? 3Oct 21, 2009 11:57 pm My first choice would be to have a wc, shower and double vanity, so I would extend the en suite to allow for better placement of those. Ideally I would have a separate wc, or at least a half wall or something like that. If I couldn't extend the en suite then I'd rather have only one basin than an awkward to use en suite (would you really use both basins at once very often if you are tripping over each other or bumping into the wc?) I wouldn't have a bath in the en suite unless it was a huge house, though for other people a bath may be a higher priority, but I don't really see where one could go on your plan anyway. Think about where towel rails will go (my pet hate is towels hanging right next to the wc). Re: is my ensuite disproportionate? 4Oct 22, 2009 7:34 am It's similar to what I have in my current home, except the toilet is near the shower where you have a vanity, and my double vanity is on the wall where you have a toilet. I also have a double shower with a door opening off centre to avoid hitting the toilet. What you have drawn there will work - you just have to decide whether you are happy with it or not Blog is now up - http://www.jbdave.blogspot.com/ Re: is my ensuite disproportionate? 5Oct 22, 2009 9:16 am Quote: If I couldn't extend the en suite then I'd rather have only one basin than an awkward to use en suite (would you really use both basins at once very often if you are tripping over each other or bumping into the wc?) Totally agree. I think the WC is in the way of one of the basins. I'd either extend the length of the ensuite by moving your WIR further out into the hallway and pout the WC next to the vanity or I'd have one basin. Re: is my ensuite disproportionate? 6Oct 22, 2009 10:06 am Yes, the simplest solution is just to have one vanity and put the loo next to that; that's what I would do (but then I am biased as I dont really want a double vanity anyway ) Unless you have baths very often, I would not worry about a bath in the ensuite, the majority of ensuites only have showers - if you want an occasional bath you can just use the main bathroom (which I presume has a bath?) Re: is my ensuite disproportionate? 7Oct 22, 2009 10:25 am I'd push the WIR out to line up with the entry/hall way wall. This would then allow enough room to keep your double vanity and put the WC beside it (maybe even enough room to make the WC its own room, behind a door?) Do you really need such a large shower ? The shower alcove could be used for the double vanity instead. The vanity unit would still be the same size. Then you could opt for a smaller (but still good sized) corner shower (maybe 1200 x 1200) in place of the existing vanity. Leave the loo where it is next to the new shower - possibly with a low/half wall for a bit of extra privacy. Thanks for the suggestion. The space between shower and sinks was too tight. I agree about the toilet location. So I have tried two other options: The lower one is… 3 6128 the step up is 30mm and wanting it to be flat . how much does the concrete have to be lowered .we plan on removing bath and lenghten shower and adding seat. the old bath… 0 11829 |
