But we're building a small house, so we had to be clever to fit everything in. We wanted to have an ensuite with a double-vanity and a bigger shower than standard. Here's what we did: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Note that we swapped the doors for cavity sliders to save room and also reduced the size of the winow. Only problem with the tight layout is we're not sure where we'll put the towel rail! Hmmm. Here's how it looks at the moment... still waiting for basins, tiles, etc... For instance we have 4 ensuites and no main bathroom (two powder rooms for visitors). The main ensuite is huge with a massive double shower, separate toilet, double vanity and freestanding bath. The minor ensuites are all 2m x 2m and have a 900mm vanity, normal sized toilet and 900mm corner shower. I would classify them as small but perfect for one person. In one of our rentals the bathroom is around 3m x 4m (roughly) - we renovated it and it contained a 1000mm shower, 750mm vanity, toilet and 1.8m bath. But in my opinion it is a little too squishy. I could have gone without the bath but since it is only a one bathroom house and a rental I thought we needed to retain the bath. I think you just cope with whatever room is left over. SirLancelot - in our minor ensuites the towel rails are all placed higher on the wall to the left of the toilet. Some things are worth waiting for. Cheers, Lance. http://www.lanceandstacey.blogspot.com Thats the excact same layout as what we did It works well, we put our towel rail between the shower and the vanity on the bit of wall oposite the sliding door. we managed to fit a double rail there. Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: Small Bathrooms/Ensuites 5Nov 07, 2009 10:30 am Well it's a standard 3 bedroom house. Not overly huge. Only has the one bathroom. The toilet is off the laundry and will remain there because I hate having the toilet in the bathroom, its impractical. Here is a picture of what it is like now. http://www.realestate.com.au/objects//p ... 452098.jpg Shower is over the bath. Cabinet is really * and home made, pretty much runs across to the far wall. Its a very small room but I don't know exact measurements yet cos I'm still not in. I would like to take out all that weird stuff enclosing the bath and create a few inches more space. I'd like to remove that window/mirror and plaster up the wall, and put in a new basin/vanity with a much bigger wall mirror. I'd like to tile it from top to bottom and maybe use a glass fixed shower screen instead of a curtain, definitely involve some kind of feature tiles in the shower or somewhere.. Towel rails would have to go on the opposing wall. Colours would be white, grey and green (a very pale green) Re: Small Bathrooms/Ensuites 6Nov 07, 2009 12:21 pm Just a few ideas: Corner vanities sometimes work as space-savers. This isn't a nice one, but it gives you the general idea - you could easily have a beautiful cabinet made and add a basin to suit: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Or maybe a shallow vanity with a semi-recessed basin - that takes up little floor space and visually makes the room bigger too. Like this sort of thing, nut made to the appropriate size: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Baths come in all sorts of sizes, so if you hunt around, you might be able to save some extra space there while keeping your bath. Glass shower screens and a large mirror will make the room seem larger as well and so will light colours. And shelves recessed into the wall cavity give you extra storage without taking up any space in the room at all. You can see mine reflected in the mirror here (so, it's not a small bathroom....it's still a great idea ): Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Hi all, We are looking to build a new two storey house in western Sydney.
